Skylines and other grey market vehicles are the vehicle of choice for Druggies and various other "Homies". Anyone with a little cash can buy one. They go fast, and allow you to break all sorts of laws.
A restored/improved Datsun is COMPLETELY a different thing. Not even in the same ballpark. My experience is that Police will either look at you, and give a nod of approval, or will not even look.
I believe this guy had one or all of these problems:
1. bad driving record 2. unpaid fines 3. bad attitude (including cap worn backwards) 4. criminal record
I dare you to actually contact this bloke, or pm some of his friends and ask their opinion on the matter. I'm pretty certain you'll be met with a disagreement. It gives the impression that driving a skyline is a criminal offence which is completely absurd. If the same thing happened to me in my granny spec AE82 corolla I can guarantee I would not get picked on. My point is it shouldnt matter what you drive, as long as you are obeying the road rules and arent doing anything illegal the cops shouldnt have to do anything except drive by and give a friendly wave for doing the right thing. And the comment about who drives skylines and grey imports... they are nice cars, much better than the australian produced counterparts of the same era. The gts-t though is not much faster than a commodore executive. I would rather trust a hoon with a skyline gt-r than an ss commodore or other rear drive v8. I can still break laws in a datsun 120y, so what is you're point?

did i mention that we could argue this point till the cows come home?
but its never going to change?
everybody here who has modified there engine (and probably most who havent) in a street registered car is guilty for making the police have to do their job
we can sit here and say that we like the extra grunt but only use it within the road rules all the time...
but at the end of the day.. we all know that its just plain bullsh*t..
so it might aswell be said..

I don't know why, but I just had a look at that R33 sob story. Quote: It was another usual Saturday night... Nothing silly tonight! I was cruising along and saw another skyline, yum i thought to myself...He realy looks gorgeous.... *Flutter Flutter Flutter* the sound of my bov as i cruised past him casually not going over the 100km/h.... The 32 responded with a quick rev of the engine and a drop of the clutch and took off from me...
Knowing my car hasn't been tuned and just got out of Hardcore on friday night I was reluctant to do anything with him, certainly racing wasn't on the agenda for tonight...
I find it hard to sympathise with him - even if you believe he was being an absolute angel that night, it sounds like he's gotten away with alot of racing in his time... what goes around comes around. I find it diffucult to believe he wasn't racing at least a little bit - come on, he just got a new front mount and BOV the day before! And ummm, since when do BOV's flutter when you're just cruising along at 100kph??? you don't have to exceed the speed limit to be racing... Quote: So the officer comes up and hes like bla bla bla im so and so... please get turn off your engine now and get on the foot path.... -nope sorry, ur gunna have to give me a few minutes to cool down.. and why did he need to let the turbo cool down if he was just driving along at 100 on the highway? hmmm... even if he had been racing, this was the last thing he should have said to the cops! not the sharpest tool in the shed... but that's alright, he doesn't need my sympathy. his responsible boostcroozin mates racer_by_night and wogboy_dragga have got his back

Quote: It's like the "Guns don't kill people, people do" argument. How do we ban people? yes, and look how that turned out.... now the only people with guns are criminals... great move!

Hahaa that R33 sob story made me cry with laughter. I like how he took the time to explain every minute leading up to it, in detail to get the most sympathy. Now this next thing, as I write I am really cut up and because of this from now on I will write real sloppy WTF wogboy dragga is a datto owner From now on, if you cant win, just cry. It works for little kids and alot of other people seem to think it will work for them too.

it gets better - I just flicked to the last page of that thread about the poor old skyline hoon being discriminated against... Quote: i didnt race him but i was acceling at points of time when he wasnt but not exactly speeding...
maybe i did speed? so after a complete denial about doing anything wrong, he changed his tune from "i cruised past him casually not going over the 100km/h " to admitting and "maybe i did speed" while intentionally enciting the other guy to race. Not the angel he was claiming to be after all. he was the one who initiated and caused the other guy to "race". Come on, that sort of blatting past the other car and fluttering your BOV is a clear invitation to race. His actions played a significant part in the other guy's eventual dangerous behaviour of racing off down the highway. And he knew that was going to happen. Even if he didn't actually race him when the other guy took off, the other behaviour is just as much a part of street racing. guilty as charged! be careful whose story you quote to defend your argument that you're not irresponsible hoons being picked on for no reason...

ive read nearly all the coments on this topic and think that pritty much all of you are right in what you are saying. i dont like getten into this s#it and im only 17 so i havnt had a chance to drive by my self yet but i think we arent going to change the way the police and others see us and i think alot of them seriously want to ssave lives, alot of the time they are the first ones to a crash site and see the result of a stupped mistake.

i think that the tosser in the skyline should have the car taken and sold so that every time he saw it drive past with some one else enjoying his hard earned cash it will remind him he was a tosser and maybe then he will be a sensable driver and not want to lose even more money thats spent on his next car once bitten twice shy i say
