As for the Skyline guy, I believe that he was doing nothing wrong up until the point that he was pulled over.
Skylines and other grey market vehicles are the vehicle of choice for Druggies and various other "Homies". Anyone with a little cash can buy one. They go fast, and allow you to break all sorts of laws.
A restored/improved Datsun is COMPLETELY a different thing. Not even in the same ballpark. My experience is that Police will either look at you, and give a nod of approval, or will not even look.
I believe this guy had one or all of these problems:
1. bad driving record
2. unpaid fines
3. bad attitude (including cap worn backwards)
4. criminal record
ACA are a scaremongering, sensationalist TV show. They are after ratings, and they make it look like Australia is becoming a "Police State", and that we are all a bunch Criminals. Blah Blah, I don't believe it.
Maybe I should start a new post for this?
Want to be a "trouble magnet" in turbo car?
1. Fit a big blow off valve (good for gearchange shift flames)
2. Up the boost until you see plumes of ECU based boost protection smoke out the exhaust
2. Illegally lower the car, so the wheels foul on body parts.
3. Put illegal width rims on it
4. Crank up your illegally loud car stereo
5. Run a 4 inch straight through exhaust with no CAT convertor.
6. Run a pod filter with no PCV.
7. Also some shopping stickers down the front guard,
8. maintain that "defect ready" drift-related body damage.
9 Run different diameter wheels to give the impression that you regularly run into gutters doing stupid things on the road.
10. Think of a lot of insulting names you can call the police as they tow away your car for issues in points 1 through 9.

Most of this post is in jest. But seriously, in my opinion, I'm yet to believe that cops are doing anything except their jobs.
Please flashback to that kid on the NSW Central Coast who crashed that beautiful Blue R34 GTR, and killed everyone involved doing 200plus in an 80 zone... What's a copper to do after seeing sh!t like that?
It's like the "Guns don't kill people, people do" argument. How do we ban people?
