if track is measured wheel centreline to wheel centreline...then surely using TRX rims with a more FWD offset would bring your track back IN to compensate for the 15mm on either side going OUT.
by my calcs your track ends up being increased just over 12mm...?

You have got 13mm each side from the struts themselves + 10mm (I think, I'll measure it tonight. *Edit*: yes, 320mm vs 310mm) from the longer lower control arm, so 23 mm per side total difference, or 10.5 mm to make up per side (allowing for 25mm total track increase.) I would have thought you could fix that with the right offset.
*Edit* can probably be made legal with a 5.5" rim but the best I could get for a 6" with +40 offset was an increase track of 30mm......i.e illegal by 5mm & that is without much strut clearance. +38 offset 6" rims should work well (guard will need to be rolled & pumped 10mm or so) but is a long way from being legal in terms of track. spewin.

I have FWD offset rims on the front of my car. 6" rims, not sure of the offset.
I have 175mm tyres. By my measurements I have a track width 15mm greater than the max amount allowed. Rims with greater offset will not help as my small and sexy pinky finger barely fits between the strut and the tyre. (ie about a 5mm gap). I'm unsure of the amount of camber I am running?? If I reduce the camber, the track will reduce but 15mm is quite a bit??? I may end up running positive camber just to get it over the pits!!! My car ain't yet on the road. I attached the speedo and took it for a spin round the block. (my 3rd such drive) Mind you my car is registered. I am about to turn onto the main road, (my speedo not workin) a commodore drives past. I decide to see how long before I can catch this commodore............about 100m down the road........guess who's goin the other way???????? the coppers do a u turn, turn their light on...I start pullin over...they keep goin!!! I'm stoked. The commodore pulls over and the coppers stop behind him. Its my bloody day ...........................NOT .As the copper gets out of the car...he waves me down. They give him a speeding ticket and me....a yellow sticker...for having loose wires in the car. At the moment I'm busy doin other things...(My GB started whinning..I don't want to know) Also...rims are allowed to be upto 2 sizes bigger than standard??? standard is 4.5"...does that mean rims only up to 5.5" are allowed????????????

I had a quick look at the built in camber angle of the two struts, and they looked to be the same (I will check properly when I get the chance) so, with a stock or lowered ride height you should still have neutral or negative camber at the wheels, even if you use the shorter original control arm.
Stock control arms should solve your problem i.e. bring the wheels in by 10 mm each side........ And then wack the stanza ones back in once it has been passed. EDIT: My 1978 ute lower ball joints have the same bolt spacing (where they attach to the lower control arm) as the stanza- Trapezium shape, from bolt centre to bolt centre 52mm at the outer, 30mm at the inner and 28mm on the side. Earlier models may be different. As for rims, I just asked today +2" rule applies to diameter & + 1" to width, you need engineering approval for more than that (in western Australia). I'm spewing cos 195/50/15's are only give you a 5% speedo error, compared to the 155/80/12's that are on it. (and the speedo reads high anyway, so it would improve the accuracy) I am pretty sure my stock rims are 5" not 4.5" EDIT: no dammit, I was measuring from the outer edges rather than inner face! Can you post up more details of the 20V conversion? they're a good engine and suit the car well I reckon (apart from the toyota badge)

EDITS:
6.0" x 14 or 15in rims will fit with a +38 offset (checked at the mag shop) but only leave about 2-3mm between rim and strut.... nowhere near enough. 6.0" x 14 or 15in with a +35 offset fit with a reasonable amount of clearance i.e. a bit more than 5-8mm (couldn't actually measure, but they looked ok) May depend on the rim as well, because the second set (14 X 6, +35) had more than an extra 3mm clearance. These rims had 185/70/14's on them and there was clearance all round, but it was only a couple of mm at the tyre sidewall. Does anyone know how much sidewall bulge you get out of a 195/50/15 on a 6" rim As for the +2 rule (W.A.) all of the guy's in the shops said dont worry about it, you will never get picked up for having 15"s unless the cop/inspector is a datsun guru and knows that 1200's came out with 12" not 13".

tyre wall bulge often depends on tyre make, actual cross sections vary from tyre to tyre of the same size between different manufacturers due to different shoulder construction or block shape/configuration.
195/50/15's usally a good fit on a 6" and aside from a 195/45/15 theres not really alot of choice. can get a 165/50/15 from europe but the 6" could be getting a little wide ... there'd be no bulge though as for shocks - pedders 8722 Comfort Gas Cartridge for the stanza aren't to bad under a 1200. the combination of the softer 1200 spring rate and the heavier rate of the stanza shock give a good comprimise between spring compression and dampening to have good, responsive handleing without being rediculously stiff. be interested in what others are running - spring and shock combination, and what the rides like ???

Thanks boofhead, I'd also be keen to hear about what people have have found worked/ didnt work.
There were monroe gas inserts in my struts. When I took them apart they were really soft and squelchy sounding on the bump and jerky on the rebound, so I figure they are shagged, but I dont have a lot of experience with suspensions...... that's not normal, is it There was also a lot of oil in the strut, I figured it was leakage from the previous strut, but I have heard it is in there deliberatley for heat dissipation. can anyone confirm this?

datsik said stock wheel width was 4.5, its actually 4inch... 4.5 was on 120y i believe and sunny, max width on 1200 legally is 5 inch.
Corona steel rims are my next choice... look like poormans 12 slotters

a while ago now sum1 said that using ford laser strut inserts in the stanza struts will stop the struts from bottoming out when they are lowered can anyone confirm this. i have looked in the search option but i cant find the thread.
