Hi, all,

I've a 1971 Datsun 1200/LB110 that has a bad case of floorboard (and lower body) cancer, due to running on Alaska's well-salted road system, then sitting for about 17 years.

Anyone have any ideas where I can get some body/floorpan replacement steel?

Or in the alternative, any kit cars available that would accept the Datsun running gear?

Here's some pix of the damage...

From here it looks like its rusted thru the chassis rails, you've got one hell of a challenge if you want to get that thing back on the road!! And a very expensive challenge...

Im suprised the jack stands havent pushed thru the supports yet,
Good luck on trying to restore a very tired looking 1200!

Hi akseeker, welcome to the club.

This is the first report of a 1200 in Alaska!

Body parts are not generally available in the US, but sometimes are listed on eBay. Fiberglas hood and fenders may still be available for Showcar Bodyparts. New fenders were available last year (search for Ericksen Nissan).

In Australia many repro body panels are available new.

Others have rebuilt the sheet metal from scratch. It can be done.

My advice is visit Seattle or Vancouver and buy a different 1200 to replace yours.

I am sorry to have to say this but......your pics made me laugh. That has to be the worst 1200 I have ever seen - sorry.
My suggestion is to sell of as many parts as you can and throw the rest away, either that or find another 1200 shell and swap the good bit over.
THAT SHELL IS BEYOND REPAIR.

OMG dude, that is so Fred Flintstone.
No seriously, you'd be better off hauling up a non running 1200 from further south and transfering all the good stuff over.

I kind of suspected that was the case, hence my second request for any type of kit car that would accept the 1200's running gear.

Anyone ever heard of anything like that?

Thanks.

BTW, glad I was able to supply you all a good laugh! It got so bad when I was still driving it I had to put a piece of plywood under the pedals to keep from using my heels for brakes!

Although not a kit car, I'm putting a complete Datsun drivetrain into my Morris MInor panel van. (A14 with 5-spd) It's a very simple swap and makes the Morris very dependable.

Morris Minors are also very prone to rust, so I doubt a Morris would fare much better than your Datsun has.

I also agree that your Datsun is way beyond hope. I'd find another one and use your drivetrain as spares or cores for rebuilding.

Well, I guess that it's fixable, if you spend enough time effort and money on it, but it's going to be a lot quicker, easier and cheaper to replace the car.
It's my guess that it would save a lot of heart ache and money if you bought a rust free 1200 from one of the desert states, flew there & drove it home, that rust is really bad.
