hey guys

im wanting to know who i need to deal with to get a speedo drive for my series 4 rx7 gearbox that will make my speedo read accurately...

basically my speedo reading is 20% faster than my acutal speed.. and i want to correct it prior to my engineers inspection...

so if anyone has been through this.. and can tell me who i should be dealing with it would be greatly appreciated..

and better still if anyone knows someone in melbourne who could help me out that would be ideal...

thanks in advance

but have no idea if the guy who told me this is talkin kak or not.

there is a gear inside the gearbox that drives the cable.... the cable to my knowlegde is just that... a cable...

so yeah.. i think what that guy said is 'kak'

as for the 15's... you'll need either a brake uprgrade or spacers to fit them on the front of a 1200.... rear's fit fine.... the front also required extensive flaring of the guards to fit them under.....

spoke to the place today - $220 drive away and you'll have a speedo thats spot on to suit your gearbox/diff/tyre combination. Takes around 2-3hrs 1st time, and if you ever change your gearbox/diff/tyre combination again, it's easy, cheap and quick to adjust your speedo to suit the new stuff.
the place is :
Howard Instruments unit 1/125 Melbourne Rd, Nth Geelong
ph : 52 787 822

Boofhead- Is that an electronic speedo of some sort that they are using, or just an adjustment of the stocker?

This is something that really bugs me. Bike speedos are cheap as and can be adjusted for different wheel sizes really easily. Why the hell can't you get an eletronic car speedo that can be adjusted for whatever final drive and wheel combo you are using????? All you need is a balanced collar with a magnet to bolt around your driveshaft and a pickup for the signal.... not rocket science to put together!!

I have asked a few people over here and they dont reckon this product exists. Internet searching came up with a few home made versions, but that was it.

There would have to be a market for it.

this is all using existing speedo, gearbox, etc. What the guy told me is they put a 'box' at the gearbox connection of the speedo cable, the cable now goes into this 'box', inside the box is 4(i think??) smaller or bigger gears to accurately adjust the speedo cable rotational speed to get the speedo in the dash reading right.
hope that makes sense oh yeah they do take the car for a drive first to assess how far out the speedo is - faster or slower.

i have also seen a ute rigged up with a push bike/bicycle speedo - magnet glued to the inside of the rim, pick up attatched to the strut, wire run up into the cabin and little digital read out bluetac'd to the dash
by all claims it worked pretty accurate and the good quality ones will read up to 200kmh and are backlit
