the knocking when on full lock could be ur balljoints or tie rod ends... i had the same problem and i replaced both items and havn't heard a thing since..

the knocking in the rear when u are going straight??? Errr good luck with that one..

Thanks all for the advice

I will give it a bit of a tidy up...with a brass wire brush. I foolishly left the pistons exposed overnight without oil on them and they picked up a little corrosion. So I'll brush that off as well.

I wont aim for a mirror shiny finish on the top of the block - just remove all the old gasket material and brush it up fairly smooth.

When the decked head comes back I'll reassemble with a new head gasket and see how it goes.

Thanks again for the re-assurance...hope I didn't hijack this thread!

g'day dave, silastic = gasket silicon, window sealant, shower and bathroom silicon. local hardware or auto shop, nothing special but after a day of being compressed the spacers hold tight to the rims
cleaning the deck of the block should usually only need a scrape with a blade type scraper, get all the bits off and slap in the new gasket ..... can't see how shiney it is once its all to together

Yes COUP1200 that is the rocker gear, dont worry i cleaned it before i put it back on the head and it had only been sitting there for 5 mins...

Yeah niceproducts have some good stuff hey, glad to know it was of use to you.
Cheers boofhead, i have some gasket sealer and holymar glue that maybe could be used but ill see and test. I booked the car in for a check up and tune on Tuesday next week so until then its just getting it looking pretty is the only thing need doing!

The ball joints wernt doing it before i took it off the road again (about 2 months ago) so maybe something could have happened to them since then???

We will see when the guy checks it out on Tuesday as he specialises in brakes, exhaust and tune ups for injection/carbs.

Thanks for the replys!
Dave

Also the guys who welded my zorst didnt put another mounting point below the gearbox so now it knocks on the bottom of the firewall, it was there before but the cut it off - assholes...
