Just wondering at around what rev's does a stock A12 redline? And how can you tell? Just listen? or is there a better (more
accurate) way to determine?
thanks

Stock A12 redline would be around the 5500-6000rpm mark. Just rev it up until she valve bounces. A more accurate way would be to hook up a good tacho, rev it up until it
bounces, stop, and then switch the tacho over to max rpm made and it will shoot up to around 6000rpm. cya

THE MOST ACCURATE WAY TO FIND YOUR OPTIMUM MAX RPM'S ON A STOCK 1171 ENGINE IS TO LOOK AT THE TAG ON THE ENGINE COMPARTMENT FIREWALL. MINE SAYS 69 HP
AT 6,000 RPM.

heaps good, thanks heaps.

By bouncing you mean kinda like when it's cold or idling too low?

Hi,

Acording to the FIA's form of recognition
(http://datsun1200.cjb.net/images/page01.jpg)
The max rpm for the A12 is 6400 (http://datsun1200.cjb.net/images/page07.jpg), 6800 for the GX (http:/
/datsun1200.cjb.net/images/page24.jpg)

I'm building a new datsun 1200 site, but it's going slooowly (http://datsun1200.cjb.net/ is empty)

Bye

My stocker A12 in a 1200 wagon would pull 6600 in 4th gear (4 speed). ~96mph
on a flat road.

Pretty frightening really.

Chris.

96mph? woah....whats that, 153 km/h? Not too shabby....

Just wondering, what's the 1/4 mile time of a 1200 4 door sedan, with stock A12? It has stock everything, including
4spd manual. Anyone know?

Thanks

My stock 69 HP 1171 motor would pull 5400 RPM's and top out at 94 MPH on the flats in fourth gear. What rear gear are you running to get that 1200 extra RPM's at 96 MPH? I
used the stock 3.9:1 gear. Maybe the station wagon has better aerodynamics than my sedan. My coupe automatic did 107 MPH at 5600 RPM's and has the same gear, 3.9:1.

The station wagon and utes both have a 4.11:1 ratio. That would explain the
rpm difference.

As I've mainly played about with 1200 Sedans and Stationwagons, I thought most all datsuns had 3.9:1 diffs. I used a digital tachometer, calibrated on a oscilliscope. So I'm fairly
certain the revs are correct..Maybe it was the cheap retreaded tires bulging under speed (cringe here) I think it had a replacement muffler? But that's about it, can only be the
diff ratio. The old rectangular speedo was showing 98mph? But I wouldn't trust it's reading. The Wagon was a '72 model I think.
