Re: reaching 100+ HP in a 1000 coupe?

about 125rwbhp is the best I have heard of from a competition A series engine also. And I know the owner had spoken to John Taylor who confirmed it was similar output to his car. But that is nowhere near 200 flywheel. Its somewhere around 160hp at the flywheel, give or take a handful depending on the weight and type of driveline. And that gives realistic figures for competiton 2v engines of about 100bhp per litre. Which is exceptional for an ohv arrangement.

Is it a requirement of your class to keep an A series (or an alternative engine from the same era with the same config/ vave numbers etc) in the car? It astounds me that anyone would spend $10K doing the mods to get 150-160 flywheel bhp out of an A15 when there are newer bits of gear out there, (albeit from other manufacturers) available for a relativley modest price that will achieve those numbers straight outo of the shipping container

no, IPRA doesn't hence converted going to the SR20 as a cheaper way of getting more power, but that particular example I used above is in a PRC rally car and they do have to keep the original or homologated block. Internals and induction are free.
I don't know how much he spent doing it, but that soiunds like almost enough if you're just doing it as a customer engine. The 190-200bhp (146rwbhp) 1995cc L18 I borrowed last year would have been around that mark as a customer engine.

If a tree falls in the forest and no one is there, does it make a sound?

With the original question answered (eventually), does it really matter where the thread ends up?
datrat_dave- didn't you post a pic of a GM V8 on a dyno into this thread not so long ago I took it to be a genuine post not subtle and ironic commentary on the direction if the thread..... All i was getting at when I changed the subject was going from "can you get 150-200hp out of an n/a a-series" to Why the fark would you bother?...... unless you were racing and class rules prevented a swap...... which doesn't seem to be the case for any of the contributors to this thread

I have 98.7hp now and with the new pistons and some more comp we hope for alittle more
Might even tune the carbs alittle to clean up that AFR. Or if I get real excited get some injection on it Then I'll be around this magical 125hp atw thats been talked about My engine is a strong little bugger but not as developed as JTS would be so I assume he would have more Hp than me I will go SR route eventually but I had this engine in the build and sitting in the shed since 1995 so I'm using it and developing it further before the change for my own benefit to see how well I can make the old OHV engine go

I thought the thread was entitled "Re: reaching 100+ HP in a 1000 coupe?"? Are we that far off topic talking about A series power output to earn your scorn? Good thing the internet police turned up to shift the topic back on track like you lot did. This is far more relevant. good one
