be careful if you try to put your head unit there: there is a structural member of the dashboard there - between the square thing and the coin tray!...
you may have to reinforce that area!...
on my July '75 120Y I intend putting a tape deck - under the glovebox lid/door

I'm going to use an ipod, and a kick ass amp and speaker system. A headunit is an invitation to steal, and/or screw with other things on the car.

Mine is in the glovebox, so it keeps the good ol look of the dash. Another advantage is so dirty theifs cant see it.

ipods are awesome for convenience, but the quality isn't that great if you use an itrip, and different tracks come up at different volumes.

If you do have an ipod, consider buying a HU from alpine with Aux inputs to give you best sound possible. Itrip and other Fm transmitters are down right terrible, save your money. I believe the cheapest Alpine Hu that comes with Aux is around 249 Canadian.
