Youv'e sort of answered your own question there. Sounds like H190 is not an option for you. Try an H165, even if you break an axle it's still a lot easier and cheaper than an H190. They're pretty tough anyway, I would think it would be ok. Unless you drive like an idiot, in which case put a big heavy diff in which will worsen handling and cost heaps to fit.

Hey thanks for all the replies, guys. If I do have to modify the rear end I want to do it properly so the R31 sound like the go, how hard is it to find R31 diffs, and how easy is it to get an LSD for one? I do plan to drive like an idiot, thats what the car is being built for. Has any one actually broken a H165 diff? Does de-stressing (shotpenning?) the axles actually make them much stronger? And as NZDATMAN said I dont really want to go for a huge bloody diff because it will upset the charactoristics of the car.

I would (and am) use an H165. The ute ones bolt straight in. welded centres (which you have ruled out) will break axles. with an LSD the strain on the axles should be less. The crap part is that the LSD bit is heller expensive. (Unless you're a tin ass like morgan!)

I think you on the money a14force. The H165 with an LSD is probably the best option, Im just worried that if I spend all the money (between 1.5 and 2k) on an LSD and the axles just brake all the time Ill be super-pissed.

if you go for a r31 skyline diff it should allready be a lsd if you go for a pintara it will be an open wheeler the only advantage or a r31 and pintara diff is that the stud pattern is the same but a vl holden,ea eb ed falcon is 5 stud but it is the same diff as far as I know. Got any picks of your motor in

Mazda B2000 drum to drum, will sit on 1200 spring bolt up points they are dirt cheap millions of ratios available, and you use FWD offset wheels(25-30)to maintain within rta track tollerance. If you want to keep the same stud pattern axles and drums can be modified without to much fuss or expense

Cheers Bert, but surely staying with datsun/nissan parts will be easier. As for pics of the motor in the car, no can do. The car is at the painters having recieved a comlpete bare metal panel and paint and wount be back till next week. The motor is in parts (everythings there) in my garrage beside the supra box, custom bell housing and xmember to mount the motor in a 1200. Everythings there except the diff, I have a H165 rear end out of a ute but Im still making up my mind about which diff to run. Im taking pics and will post them as I go. There is a sheit load of stuff to do to get a FWD toyota fuel injected, supercharged motor into a datto, every two steps forward theres one step back.

I believe only the r31 sillouette diffs are LSD.
bluebird H190 is 3.9 is it not? You can view topic.
