Ah, you're a lucky man - I was going to head down to Lonsdale soon to get that clutch master!
Yep - interesting car eh? I wonder why the owner didn't finish it and felt the need to sell it to U-pull-it at a massive loss?

Well heres an update,
I have used a bare block, head and gearbox to test fit the L16, crossmember and engine mounts are currently tack welded with the fresh motor in the car now. ![]() Moved the alternator to the right side of the motor to give more room for the clutch master set-up i have. ![]() Also had to do a fair bit of gentle hammer/dolly work to the sump to fit over the crossmember. ![]()

Ive also found a perfect fit tailshaft, 1200 auto tailshaft, bolts up to my borgy diff and has about 20mm play at the gearbox end(stanza 5spd).

All thats to go now is to bleed the clutch setup, mount radiator, bolt up headers and su's and give her some lubricants. Just gona use some stanza struts I have lying around for now, theyve got new pads so should last until i need to pull of the road early next year.
Then the development starts, ive got some 42mm webers that need a full rebuild, also have to start looking into a better diff, it has a standard borgy at the moment, which will hold up fine for now, the car will be daily driven until i can afford to get my corolla back on the road, this will come off road permantly and get all rust fixed and cage fitted etc... long road ahead.

The flat top SU's don't have smog equipment as such, they just have a sort of tamper proof system for adjusting the mixture and idle. Most Datsun Service Manuals show the early round top SU's which don't have that system. I've got some scans of a service manual covering the flat tops on my website...
Flat top SU's You can blank remove the pipework and the extensions they attach to on the carbs and fit blanking plates but that leaves you with no mixture adjustment as the jets are fixed. You can make those fixed jets into ajustable ones though. The adjusters are encased in a metal tube thing which can be removed with care. You have to gring off the rivets as shown by the red arrow in the pic below then grip the tube where the green arrow is pointed with some vice grips and unscrew the tube. When you grip this bit you need to do it hard enough to clamp the tube down onto the collar inside (green arrow second pic below) so you can unscrew it. Once it's off you can chuck the tube and screw the collar back on. They are now adjustable same as old SU's. The solenion valve is just an anti dieseling valve so you can either leave it on or remove it..up to you. Sometimes they run on after turning the engine off if you take it off. ![]() ![]() Not sure if the Aussie flat tops are the same as ours but the chances are they are the same. -Ed

Ok heres some pics,
![]() This one is of the top of the carbs, you can see the vacuum hose is blocked off that comes from the manifold, where does this go? Also if i leave all the emissions on there is there much loss in power? I might leave as is just hook it all up correctly. Heres a pic of the jet adjuster, which has adjustment ![]() You can view topic.
