The SOHC is fine but , being a racer I thought of a twin cam. Next question , I've seen one or two mini-pick ups with L14s in the states but do not know what other USA models had them.

Can you use an A14? You will get 140hp from one easy. Or restamp an a14 a12

does it have to be the original crank,because you could do the a14 crank into the a12 block
conversion dodgeman is doing,plus many a 1200 rally car.you could bore the block to 76 mm for 1390 cc's,or 77 mm for about 1430.just use a12a rods & a15 pistons to get the correct pin height.should get you close to that hand grenade a12,with a lot more engine life,plus retain an original appearance.if,however,you can find an l14 block,you could probably use an l18 crank to make it 1770 cc's. the lz14 head that errol acquired recently was from a formula atlantic/pacific engine that someone i know imported into australia.the engine sat around for years before he could even get somebody to buy the head,& the bottom end was never sold.

Mr B310gx I dont no where you got that info from but thats incorect. I was at the ferals place the last tuesday having a look at the LZ.
The origanal owner was nissan motor company raced buy Barry bray for nissn motor company. sold to graham thompson on sheperton vic sold to roby thompson in ballerat vic sold to peter lain in melbourne. sold to the person that sold it to the feral. There has been may bottom ends for this LZ20 not LZ14 some where 1.8 & some 2.0. I just thought you might like to no the truth whee it came from. Coops

If the L14 is capacity free you could use an L18 crank and rods with an 84 mm bore making 1730cc.
This would give you a reliable 160 hp with long life for the engine between rebuilds. B310GX, This head has some unique parts that are still with the head dating from 1989 in the pics I have. I tried to buy it in 1989 from Graeme Thompson in Sheparton, but it was $6000 then and I couldnt afford it. He also had an FJ24 (freshly engine dynoed. It was $10,000 then (This became Phil Morris's engine I think). I also have a dyno sheet for the LZ from 1979 when Nissan motor company owned it. The only difference between engines is the pistons. Combustion chamber volume on the heads is 19.5 cc. It relies on the valve pockets and 89mm head gasket for the rest of the clearance volume. I would like to know where the LZ bottom end is :)

well,i've been wrong before,but in the early 1990's arthur jackson from the road & rally centre acquired an lz16 formula pacific motor,which he wanted a lot of money for,i can't remember how much.eventually he sold the head to a sports sedan driver from victoria,& could not sell the bottom end.i remember him saying it was going onto an l20b bottom end & going into a 1600.i even have a vague recollection of him saying he sold it to robert thompson.maybe that engine was sold on to somebody else.i simply assumed this was that engine.
![]() you can call arthur jackson via stewart wilkins rallying here in sydney,though arthur threw out a lot of stuff a couple of years ago when he moved from one factory to another.he even had an fj24 motor,though someone eventually bought that,after 3 years of umming & ahhing.

Nissan sport bought in (4) and Scuderia Motors (5) I believe, from formula pacific cars in the late 80's. These were kicking around for a few years due to the price. Bruce (Nissan Sport) I believe, sold most of his to Les Collins (Datrally) for some Malaysian customers. Of the Scuderia ones, some went to Barry Bray?? and others went elsewhere NZ???. Arthurs LZ bottom end is one of the Nissan Sport ones I believe. I spoke to Arthur 2 years ago about LZ parts and he only had the remnants of the bottom end. I was after the LZ rods but they had gone ![]() I will confirm/deny the head/engine history with Robbie Thompson in the next few weeks.

I could slap in an A14 without anyone fussing about it. The key to vintage racing around hear is no one says much till you start winning a lot. I would need a full race A14 to do much better than third place. Right now my lap times put me 2-3 seconds ahead of 4th - 8th and about 8 seconds from 2nd and 10 seconds to win.
Technically I would need a A12 block but the L14 can skate through. The 1770cc version would be a no no but no one would know unless I started winning, which with the car at 1770 I would just enter the next class up so that won't happen. At this point I'm into having fun as I have boxes of trophies already but the value of the car is in keeping it vintage legal. I only want more power for track days and if I'm going to bother with an engine swap then the bigger the better , unless of course you can get an A15 up to 1650 or so. I do have a spare A12 block and a new crankshaft that I'm not sure if it is an A12 or A14......is there a quick way to tell??? Oh and did I mention the final wrinkle is the darn thing has to pass smog in order to be road legal for Tarmac Rally. So the 1770cc L14 sounds really good Ok anybody know of a place to get an L14 in the USA? What tranny I need to go with? I assume the L16 4 speed from a 510. A buddy has 2 510s with 5 speeds so he would be happy to give me his 4 speed. Tom
