Matty's got a good point in that there are too many variables too say "half the weight/half the power" and 1200rc also has a good point in that he has raced the cars in question on proper drag-strips.

Has it??? did the A15TT make it to the drag strip and I missed the post about it??? so what did it do? with the 75rwkw, I'm guessing a mid to low 15

Pager,

Back in 10 years ago, I had a 120Y with a stout A15. My mate had a VN SS commondore. At the Traffic light GP, the 120Y would have him until third gear, and then he would show me the way home.

The light weight of the 120Y got it off the line well but it didn't have the power to keep it going in the topend.

In traffic it used to be really embarassing for him.

Anyone watch "Top Gear" on SBS last night?

They took a Mk1 escort rally car and a stock ford focus, guess what, similar time around the track. . . that is 30 odd years of development for you.

As for the VN SS comparison, they made 185Kw, what the 6's are producing these days. . . The new commo's are heavier though. . .

Using a G-tech I had my 120Y running in the mid 7's 0-100km/hr Probably need ~$5K to do that today though. . .

to clarify that $5K would include the driveline, (H165 and Celica or 63A) I went through 12 56a's and 4 60a's. You could buy a pallet of the 'box's for $100 back then. . .

by the same token I fitted a turbo and could march past them in the top end but no longer match it off the line, same cheap rear tyres

I too couldn't get my A12 turbo off the line, tried all sorts of tires and rev combos. . . Usually resulting in wheelspin or broken engine mounts. My brother and his lack of mechanical sympathy used to do allright. Just sit it at 5 grand and ride the clutch through first. . .

I have no idea how many times it has been said before, but HP sells cars, while torque wins races.
1200RC's twin turbo may produce a paltry 75kw [paltry??] at the wheels [about 100hp] but boosted engines also produce bags of torque, & that's where the diference often lies, particularly if the torque kicks in down low.
