i live near wollongong i wanted 2 know if anyone knows anyone good around here that might be able to diagnose a problem for me my ute has the hickups .been a problem for a week or two now, been trying everything spark is braking down(thats wat i think anyway) about 1/4 to 1/2 throttle but is fine at idle and full throttle . sometimes it wont do it at all but.i thought it was my b-resister sping shorting things out on its mounting braket cause it rattles around slightly i pulled off and there are no burn marks ive just been playing the guessing game and ive had enough .so if anyone knows any guys round here it would be greatly apreciated!

Sounds fuel related to me. Get your jets blown out with compressed air to see if that helps.

i pulled them out they look ok but i didnt blow them, but when i put my timing light on u can see light miss when it does it. and sometimes it seems it goes away after i stop the car for 5-10m mins, like the heat soaks in a bit and kinda fixs it .sometimes anyway.but i will blow them with some air in the morning, cant hurt.

sounds like not enough fuel if it is hesitating try a extra half turn on fuel mixture screw on your carby and check ,fuel filter, leads, plugs for any damage..

If you have points, I would say they are on their way out. If you have only just changed the points, I would say the gap is to close.
The carbie mixture screw only changes idle mixture, It wont fix acceleration or cruise stutters.

I dont set a specific points gap. I go off the dwell angle when adjusting the points so you know its right. Factory setting is about 55 deg

I am sure there are cheap and expensive meters avaliable. I cant see a need for an expensive one. Mine I bought about 10 years ago at Kmart, it came in a set with a timing light, compression guage and the dwell meter. I dont think I would of payed more that $20 if that. I would have used the meter atleast once a week for 6 years minimum and its the only thing I still have from that set.

Did you adjust your points abit? I would have a fiddle just adjusting them to see if it makes a difference. No point buying a dwell meter at the moment if it isnt going to help sort the problem.
