Engine repair/ rebuild costs can range from the incredibly inexpensive, if you can do the actual work yourself, to something aproaching the utterly rediculous, like mine, & believe me, $6,000 is so very easy to spend. So very very easy.

I think that Sidedraught has the best overall plan in ther 'bang for buck' stakes

The most economical route would be to wait until someone is selling their hotted up motor to do a CA conversion, you will get it for about a third of the build price.

I'd have to agree, as I'm in the process of rebuilding an A14 to give me 80hp, without touching the bottom end of the motor.

I don't even know for sure how much I have spend so far but it must be getting close to $1000 with a bit more to go.

New gaskets, ignition parts, the tool you need each time you get stuck...

Rebuilding an engine get real expensive real fast...unless it's just me - but ask some of these guys what they have spent on their cars, and if they will tell you...be ready for a shock.

The cheapest to 'service' an A14 so it will go again at maybe 70-75hp would probably be around $400 I'd say to make sure it was reliable enough to last more that a few starts.

I continue to be suprised how much money goes into a 'budget' build.

on the other hand you could find some nice webers on ebay for about $500 and have a cam ground for $120 and perhaps find a electronic dizzy from $150-$550 the you might be able to make 120hp at the flywheel, things can get carried away when your looking for more and more power!

As a simple conversion i wana drop a A15 in my 1200 ute. As this seems the least expensive excercise (for a school student) for instant power gains. My question is what a budget for a total rebuild would be if im seeking around 120hp? And what the optimum mods would be for this sort of power gain?
