Interesting. Also interestin is the fact that my Grandparents had the first Tv in Ingham in thier newsagency. I told the lady that was running the jiont now and she gave me a blank stare. Another interesting piont is I haven't seen 1 mention of Disney cartoons! everybody loved Disney at some piont right?

TV? Who had TV?
Well, I remember 'Portia Faces Life', 'The Search fot the Golden Boomerang'. & 'Dr McKenzie, MD' [All were Radio serials]
Later on I remember when all the kids in the street gathered at one house to watch 'Zorro' because there WAS only one house in the street that actually had TV.
'Peter Gunn' was a private eye, & this show was so riveting that, to my knowledge, it has NEVER been re-run.

FE Holdens were new & no-one had ever heard of something like a Datsun, & if we had, no one would buy one because they came from a country that was our wartime enemy & ex-soldiers had long memories. [how quickly things changed]

Meanwhile those godawfull, gutless, unreliable, mobile oil leaks, known as British cars, were to be seen everywhere. No cars had PCV, oil quality was poor by todays standards, & sludge buildup was as thick as a mudslide in some of the engines that my stepfather pulled down in his service station.
If engines actually HAD an oil filter, it was most likely a by-pass type, & kerosene flushes were often done at oil change time [Sometimes twice] in an attempt to stop the new oil turning black before the car got back home.
There were many cars on the road that still had mechanical brakes which by then had all the effectiveness of a feather on a cannonball, & all of them had skinny cross ply tyres on even skinnier wheels.

At school, authauritarian teachers uses a cane 'switch' to maintain dicipline & if they took a dislike to you, then just watch out. Racial vilification was a way of life & Australia was awash with bloody 'wogs' & 'refo's' almost all of whom made a bigger contribution to Australia than most white Australians, which was another reason to hate them.
Australia's national diet was three vegetables & meat, which was the most boooring & bland fare you can imagine after a steady diet of it for all of your [young] life.

When I was becoming a young man. all the young women had one answer to 'the' question.... NO!
Not because they were frightened of the bull, but because they were frightened of the calf, & celibacy was a way of life untill our 20's when we got married. [& for many, not much changed after that]

So what was so good about the 'Olden Days'?
In my vew, the best part is the fact that they are GONE, & these days are the best it's ever been.
Retro, ... & re-runs, are cool.
