ok so that explains the stumpy box
but what about the stanza box, surely it has to be smaller otherwise there wouldnt be much point using it would there?

R30 gears are a bit bigger.
Stanza box is smaller around the girth so fits into smaller tunnels easily. The R30 box is a bit bigger around the guts but is same overall length.

so i could just use the 720 5speed i have to make all the mounts and get the engine in the right spot?
then just swap it for one of the other ones later if i want to

people say to use the stumpy skyline or stanza boxes because they are shorter than the 'normal' 5spds. and is thereofre a better fit in the 1200. ie only need to extend shifter hole slightly, no need to relocate handbrake, don't have to reach behind you to change gears
I have not measured them, but the stumpy box would be around 6-8" shorter than a normal 5spd from a Skyline/180B/Z car. 1600 4spd box is the same length as a stumpy 5spd. I don't know about the length of the other 4spd boxes - not interested in 4spds and never bothered to look at them.

thats wat i was looking for, so i would probably be right in assuming that a 200b or 720 5 speed would be one of the longer ones.
so i do need to find one of the short gearboxes to make all the mounts up thanks guys You can view topic.
