hey peoples

just becoming more interested in all this A15 turbo talk as of late and been trying to find out what would be needed to complete a setup. I understand that there are a couple of different ways to go about this, being draw through or blow through. I am all little unsure of the differences each setup will need and what disadvantages each may have overall. At the moment i have a 32/36 weber and would like to continue using it if possible. Any advice on this would be very helpful. I really would like to know what is needed to complete each setup and perhaps cost if anyone has any idea?

cheers

Draw through is easier to set up because the carby is only being sucked on as it was designed to do.
Problem is you cant use an intercooler because you would be running air full of petrol through it and that would create the potential for a big explosion.

Blow through allows the use of the intercooler as the air doesnt pick up the petrol until its just about to go into the engine, however it presents more difficulties in setting up as your carby wasnt designed to have air under pressure running through it.

So you would need to fit an airtight box around your little Weber to equalize the pressure inside and out, and also get the float filled with foam so it doesnt collape with the pressure.

You would need a turbo, $400+ on Ebay ,someone to make you an exhaust manifold to fit it $400 to $800, cheap intercooler from the wreckers or ebay, make up the other bits yourself.

I'm with datsic on that one. A turbo is not required, you could use a supercharger.

I am looking into forced induction as well, and just having rebuilt my 32/36. I would rather keep it. From what I have read so far on the topic, the problem with blowthrough carbies is changes in pressure as the turbo spools up. Carb's work on velocity, not pressure, so the varible boost you get from turbos creates all sorts of mixture problems.

However, if you run a blower (especially if its overdriven, Wally's wagon style) you should make full boost at very low revs, so the pressure change issues will only occur in a short section of the rev range.

The theory (not sure if it is 100% correct) is that a fully boxed carby will 'not know' the difference between atmospheric pressure and 5, 15 or even 30psi of boost, as long as that boost is constant.
