barra

hi
i have a kb10 in the build and i need some ideas on handleing. it will mainly be a cruiser but it will definately see both the drag strip and the circuit, so it has to be comfortable and versatile. the engine weighs about 30kgs more than an a series and the diff weighs about 20kgs more than the standard diff. any advice on shock selection? what should i do about the leafs? what else is a good idea (swaybars etc.)?? strut brace? any advice would be appreciated. thanks John

Starting with the rear, you will find that the shocks are interchangeable with 1200 coupe, so basicly you can go with whatever 1200 coupe's use. I have a fondness for Koni adjustables [orange] as you can change the stiffness to suit your particular needs.
I also like nice compliant springs, so make sure that you have slider blocks between the leaves. I have never found a rear sway bar for 1000's so I don't know what effect it might have. Front The shocks for the LC & LJ Torana's can be modified to work, & again, I have a preference for the Koni's. The spring needs to have the slider blocks, same as the rear, so that it doesn't suffer from stiction, & a modest height reduction either via a reset spring, or more commonly, a simple reduction of the height of the rubber blocks that the spring sits on. I used an aftermarket sway bar on my sedan with great success, & after refurbishment, it will go onto my coupe. ![]() ![]()

Dodgeman, do you have any larger pics?
Have you just u-bolted the sway bar to the radius rods only? Cheers, TC

One other thing, I heard that in racing cars, it is best to keep the rear suspension stock(ish). People used to remove weight then add stiff shocks, causing the rear to bounce around corners rather than sticking to the road.

I have sent you larger pics via e-mail. This swaybar was something that I picked up at a swap meet many years ago from a bloke that had a stack of NOS obsolete suspension bits. I actually bought two & the other one was on my wifes car when it was sold about 15 years ago. The orange colouring tells me that they had been a standard product line from one of the major suspension houses, & the round bar just snuggled into the recess of the radius rod. Once secured in place, it worked well. The crude U bolt method of mounting them was what came with them, but I will see if I can do something a little more tidy when I use it again You can view topic.
