the SR would b aproxximately 105kw stock, am i right? but form the figures given in this thread i would b getting that from an A15 after all the work converting it to turbo? Although this may be true, remember that the SR would be 100% reliable and the A15 highly modified to get the same power, bringing with it a whole swag of problems.

yep thats exactly the point i was getting at Ianey, with all them mods the reliability will reduce with the A15 but the SR would remain quite reliable.
so how much would the SR20DE conversion set me back guys does any body know?? cos i dont think im willing to pay 10big ones for the engine juuust yet

If beating a VT is your only concern stay with the A-series. A nice worked up A-series will make him look silly in the first 100-200m and a good one will beat him across the line as he's on his last efforts to reel you in.
It will save you big time cost wise as remember its not just the engine you have to change. The whole balance of the car is changed to requiring suspension changes. Then consider diffs, brakes, custom tailshaft, wiring etc. Just bolt in a nice A-series and suprise yourself.

depends on the engine ?? a few A series have gone from here cheap or for a couple thousand ready to bolt in .... check these for a couple examples :
A14 engine (bare) +0.040 bore with new pistons and rings at beginning of year. Balanced with light flywheel incl 7/16" UNF flywheel bolts. Cosworth grind cam and reground followers. Oval port head with port work but more HP would be available with upgraded head. Good strong engine with 89 rwp. $650 It's a Datsun A15 engine with a list of engine modifications like, New Bearings and Seals 11.5:1 Compression JTS Alloy Head Race Spec Valve Stem Seals Double Valve Springs 54/86 Camshaft Bosch High Rev Alternator Perfectly Matched Twin Weber Carburettors (No Flat Spots, super Responsive) Brand New 4 Into 1 Thermal Wrapped Extractors Brand New High Energy Ignition System Consisting of a Bluebird Series 2 High Energy Electronic Distributor with Bosch HEC 715 Matched Coil, 8.0mm Leads and NGK BP5ES Spark Plugs Brand New Facet Blue Electronic Fuel Pump into Holley Fuel Pressure Regulator also in the deal is a reconditioned lancer brake booster ready to fit to a datsun 1200 asking $2700 for the complete engine and brake booster either of these would 'suprise' your mate but probably won't blow his doors off in a straight line ..... but put it into some windy stuff and let the fun begin

freak- i guess not the Vt alone is what i set out to beat but a major goal yes, it is just the standard 3.8 atm but will most probably b supercharged aswell so what would keep up? and to boofhead yes i have seen quite a few good deals pop up, and the A series does sound like the sensible choice but i just cant help but want the sr

Best way to get an SR would be to buy a 180SX I suppose, beat the VT easy....
If you really look into these conversions they are seriously hard, when you have to change your engine, suspension, drive train, fuel delivery, diff, transmission tunnel, brake balance...you get the idea, lots of work and 10K+ seems to be the idea. I can see 10K dissapearing real quick. I just added up what I'd spent on tools the last year.....$3000, to work on the A series! Modding cars is a rich mans hobby I think. In fact the VT has probably been saftey recalled anyway at the moment

IF YOU WANT THE SR20 YOUD BETTER BE RICH AND WILLING TO DO THE HARD YARDS I WANTED TO DO THE SAME BUT I WANTED THE DET SERIES AND IN AUS WOULD HAVE COSTED ME $12000 AS I COULD ONLY DO A BIT OF THE WORK MYSELF, MY ADVICE GET THE A15, A SUNNY 5 SPEED AND TRICK IT OUT A LITTLE THATS MY PLAN, AS SOMEONE SAID YOU MIGHT GET DRAGGED OFF ON A STAIHT BUT GET NEW SUSPENCION AND YOULL TAKE HIM ROUND THE BENDS, AND BY THE WAY TELL HIM COMMORDORES ARE FOR SISSYS WITH NOTHING BETTER TO DO THAN BURNOUTS

spend $2000 on suspension and brakes and beat him senseless in the mountains ;)
i'm serious, if you can drive, you'll destroy him with the stock engine and maybe a weber. You can view topic.
