dude stay with the a a15 ,turbo it and fully work it. to get someone to do that it would set you back 5 to 6 grand with someone who know what they are doing and also it is amazing how much money people will drop off the price just so they can put a sticker on the back of the window of there buissness

SR cost, at least $10K maybe a lot more.
A15 cost, buying an engine someone else has already worked up $3K, do it your self $5K+

Modding cars is not cheap, and the less work you do yourself the more expensive it gets.

It's very non Datsun to say but if you want a real fast car cheap, Jap import Nissans are probably the best way to go. Silvia, Skyline.

Both Boof & B210 sleeper are right.
Get your car to ride, handle & stop right, for relatively little money, & you will be able to extract every bit of performance the engine can provide.

You will be amazed how hard a little Datsun with the right suspension & brake upgrades is to catch in the twisties with even a modest A series engine.
Pep the little feller up with a nicely warmed A15 & dogleg five speed, & your mate in that inferior car will think you are Mario Andretti.

spend $2000 on suspension and brakes and beat him senseless in the mountains ;)

i'm serious, if you can drive, you'll destroy him with the stock engine and maybe a weber.

IF YOU WANT THE SR20 YOUD BETTER BE RICH AND WILLING TO DO THE HARD YARDS I WANTED TO DO THE SAME BUT I WANTED THE DET SERIES AND IN AUS WOULD HAVE COSTED ME $12000 AS I COULD ONLY DO A BIT OF THE WORK MYSELF, MY ADVICE GET THE A15, A SUNNY 5 SPEED AND TRICK IT OUT A LITTLE THATS MY PLAN, AS SOMEONE SAID YOU MIGHT GET DRAGGED OFF ON A STAIHT BUT GET NEW SUSPENCION AND YOULL TAKE HIM ROUND THE BENDS, AND BY THE WAY TELL HIM COMMORDORES ARE FOR SISSYS WITH NOTHING BETTER TO DO THAN BURNOUTS

Best way to get an SR would be to buy a 180SX I suppose, beat the VT easy....

If you really look into these conversions they are seriously hard, when you have to change your engine, suspension, drive train, fuel delivery, diff, transmission tunnel, brake balance...you get the idea, lots of work and 10K+ seems to be the idea. I can see 10K dissapearing real quick. I just added up what I'd spent on tools the last year.....$3000, to work on the A series! Modding cars is a rich mans hobby I think.

In fact the VT has probably been saftey recalled anyway at the moment
