#1 I got another (Now with a few pics)
GreaseMonky Posted on: 2006/4/29 7:23
I just purchased another 1200 coupe, it needs some work its smashed in the front. My question is there a way to decode the vin to tell if any parts came factory on 1200's? Also are all of the heads the same, and if not how does some one tell them apart? It has dual su's, dogleg 5 speed, 4-2 exhaust manifold, factory tach, large oil pan, with side extensions. It needs a complete front clip, and the previous owner decromed the whole car, removed bumpers, shaved door, trunk lock, badges, and everything else was painted over like window trims. This makes 2 coupes, and 2 sedans for me

I will try to get pics up before the weekend is over

Man, what a find.

There is no "VIN" in the sense of a code, 1200s only have a sequential serial number.

The build date should be on the driver's side b-pillar when you open the door.

1971 apparently had a higher compression piston, but that's not proven.

No USA 1200s came from the factory with twin carbs, only the GX models had those. And only the GX-5 came with a 5-speed.

8000 RPM factory tach was a dealer option. 10,000 RPM tach was a Datsun Competition part. Ditto for headers, though more likely they are aftermarket. An oil pan with wings is aftermarket.

Well, as you had described it, it is looking a bit 'used', but hey, it isn't past its use-by date yet.
Good score.

What did you pay for this one? I like the Wheels. Ive been told of one sitting along side the freeway (pasture) with the roof caved in, up my way. Its on Native American (politically correct) land though.
If you know what getting cars from them is like.

I gave $500 for it has absolutely no rust in it at all, and runs great, it needs brakes and some front end work, I am hoping it didnt twist the chassis at all?

From your parts car, of course. There were a couple different sellers on eBay last year selling one used and one new core support. The canadian sellers of Nissan parts might have one ... I doubt if the Nissan dealer can get one, but you can always try. It is PN:

62500-H1800 ASSY-SUPPORT,RADIATOR CORE, coupe

62500-H1000 ASSY-SUPPORT,RADIATOR CORE, 2-dr sedan

I would guess they are interchangeable, I cannot think how they would be different.
