My First SR20DET ride

It was a lot different from my previous 5.0 liter cars ... like a lot more acceleration for one thing.
A guy came over to look at my 1200 that I'm trying to sell. He gave me a ride in his SR20DET-powered 510. Man what an eye opener. After he got going along the road, I realized that I was embbeded into the bucket seat -- I didn't even notice the power come on it was so smooth. As soon as I opened my mouth he shifted into 2nd and that was not smooth at all, but a violent slam back into the seat, I couldn't move. And loud ... All Go, Not Show This picture album is from the AMI BBQ -- Altered Motives is a Datsun specialty shop in Oregon. They had several 510s in the shop, one was getting a turbo, another being restored as a C Production race car or something, etc. Anyway, the first "Datsun Shop" I've even seen, and the owners are friendly guys. One of them has a new SR20DET (the kind with the cam phaser) you can see it in the previous picture on the site there.

The same with me but a CA18det powered ute. Ive been in some decent V8's but nothing pulled like this thing. I fell in love on first ride.

I competed in the drift championship here last year in an S13. It was stripped down to just over 1000kg and after the original CA18DET went bang I fitted an SR20DET...OMG! damn, the car was quick with that in it
I've seen the light since and have now pulled it out to put it in my 510 -Ed

Did I mention that this 510 has rack & pinion steering?
Here's some pics of this car from the Canby 2006 show Sunday: ![]() ![]()

It leaves no doubt in my mind that if you think your A-series powered 1200 or L-series powered 1600 is fast your in for a real shock once you go for a ride in a CA or SR powered version. It really is unbelievable. Such a small car sideways in a straight line at 100km/h. And the one thing that i noticed different to larger cars with similar 1/4mile times is that the little datto is still pulling hard even if it is sideways. Lose traction in a big horsepower commodore or falcon and you dont move at all.

My brother is in the final stages of an SR 1200 ute and damn the thing is soooo much quicker than we expected. Acceleration is unbelievable! and i mean from 4th gear onwards!!! cause theres no such thing as traction in any other gear. its quite crazy. hes taken some pretty crazy dudes for a hoon and they say its the not the strongest but definatly the quickest car they have ever been in - comparing to worked M3's, skylines and even the oldamn thats a V8 man, said he ####ted himself, cant wait for a good diff setup so it actually hooks up.

Nothing beats the feel of a ridiculously overpowered datsun!
I have a bluebird with an FJ20 and my bro has a bluebird with an SR20. Both make about 160rwkw but the SR is so much more fun to drive becaues it's got so much low down torque. The SR also has a much nicer note than the FJ in my opinion!

Hey Daveman, don't let the FJ boys hear you saying that.
![]() I like the sound of a CA, sounds more like an L series with webers ![]() A sr20det sound more like a WRX without an ignition miss. Unlike my brothers old L24B with twin 48dcoes, which sounded like an angry bear Just thought I'd recycle that quote. But I agree with all of the sentiments. To be truthful, my current 1200 is not even close to as good as my initial 1200/ca18det experiences...yet. Loads of things in progress. Should be good. It's like waiting for a christmas that only comes every 5 years ![]() Watch out for the Melbourne Datnats in 2007.
