I've been to Japan 3 or 4 times and the only old car I saw was a FairladyZ parked in some strange elevated parking space in Kyoto (well excluding the Nissan Ginza showroom which had a skyline exhibit at the time). I think their emissions standards tend to keep them off the street or make them expensive to drive. Maybe that's why we get tons of used/remanufactured japanese engines delivered to the US ??

Anyway sounds like you're having a great time. My trips were all family related trips so I didn't get to have many excursions like that.

i guess people who have cool oldschool cars in japan probably only take them out on special days.

surprising that i'll see more old imports today than you have.

Hi everyone,

Parts were ordered today. Most are NLA, but I will pick some up in two days. No emblems are available. The parts place is separate location from the new car dealership (on the edge of town by rice paddies). The parts man was extremely professional, and looked up all the part numbers without a single negative comment about futility.

sunny_coupe110-san, I am in Niigata City. I am very sorry I missed the opportunity to see you. Thank you for your invitation.

They have used book stores here called "Book Off" where they sell like-new car magazines for 105 yen (about one USD). Also they have "Garage Off" for used auto parts, but it seem only in other cities. I haven't made it to Up Garage yet but will report.

We stopped at a used car lot that had a vintage Toyota Crown and the owner gave me a genuine used license plate for a souvenier. Also a Datsun story and directions where to see an old Bluebird. The oldest car I've seen so far on a car lot is about 1988 (except for the Crown and a '64 Impala).

I have seen six old Minis here and there, but not one single Datsun so far. I have not seen any sunny trucks (utes).

Later this week we plan to visit a junkyard. Every place has a Datsun 1200 story involving the english word "crush" accompanied by appropriate hand crushing gestures.
