If it is a 76, you still need to have a smog check. So, don't get rid of it yet! The choke will not make the carb "wet" it will smoke like a b!tch! Tip on rebuild... Agreed on the fuel level. Just look in the sight glass. If it is too high, the problem is the float & valve, nothing very complicated. If it is low, crank the engine for 30 seconds to pump up the fuel level, then check it again.

Another problem could be a bad head gasket making it wet inside. Do a compression test: it is simple and easy to do.

ack! i cleaned up the carbie, but now i think i want to just stick the weber dgav on it, i just need an adapter plate for the manifold. anyone have the dimensions or an extra adapter for sale? should i just have it fabricated?
