i disagree because what if the mount is broken and it is resting on the other piece of the broken engine mount when not moving there for transfering vibrations to the car and when driving it is bouncing all over the joint soo is an on and off vibration.

when travelling around 110kph (speed limit on some road), the vibration is quite large.
yesterday i travelling at 140kph, the whole car vibrate as if it wants to fall apart, and with a lot of sounds...
Sam, perhaps if you could get the car up to about 180 -200km/h you might find the problem!

Call me stupid, but every car i have started with a broken engine mount, actually run smoother with less vibration due to the broken engine mount not transfering the vibrations to the body of the car. If you actually drive with the broken mount you will feel it and see it with the gearstick moving. Only way I can see the vibrations occuring with broken mounts is with the symptoms Homer described.

i had a similar problem. my a12 in my 1000 ute blew a head gasket cause it would leak water into the cylinder and when it spat it all out it would run better. i also had a vibration but that went away when i fixed it.
BUT... for a really bad story that u should not follow read on.
i got of my ass 1 day to change a head gasket on me a12 which had been over heating in 40 degree heat (c) for a couple of months. when i ripped of the head i found tha gasket was stuffed (alot stuffed) so i got out me wet n dry cleaned the face of the head with it and the block, replaced the head gasket $13 and inlet gasket $5 and used the original rocker gasket wacked the head back on without adjusting the rocker arms or torquing the head (just used my ratchet) and i swear its never run better. ps: dont try this at home ITS DODGY

check yur pulleys, more importantly the harmonic balancer. I am unsure about dattos but in some older cars the rubber ring can perish causing the outer inertia ring to sit offset causing vibration. Just watch your pullies while engine is running, check it at different speeds as well. Also this is highly unlikely but double chect that you havent snapped a radiator fan blade off or water pump bearing collapsed. As for looking at the mounts, you might see that the rubber is cracked and perished but one way to check is to leaver the engine either a big bar or large screwdriver, or just jack the engine up and see if the mounts seperate, same applies with the gearbox.

ya... totally sound like missing one or 2 cylinders when cold.. i will start with simple thing, plug and lead, and leave the compression test to the pro.
anyway, phisically look at the engine mount can giv us any clue it is in bad condition or not?

Engine mount, gearbox mount, Tailshaft(uni's) and wheel balance could all be possible sources. But since it makes strange noises whilst stationary id lean towards the mounts.
Any when its cold and sounding like a boxer does it sound like its missing on a cylinder? Test compression, spark pluggs, leads etc. That could fix that problem.
