#1 rotory
campo Posted on: 2006/7/22 2:42
hey guys. im still deciding on what to get for my 1200ute. put aside all the arguments on whole rotory Vs cylinders for a second, i know its hard to do .. but which would be the cheaper way to go. a ca18det or a 12A. im in QLD if that helps. this includes the whole setup (engine. box. diff - if needed) THE LOT. and which would make the most HP. and also if anyone could give me a price range with the rotory that would be great.
thanks fellas.

you will get more power out of the rotary and its also cheaper then the ca and lighter duno if its road registerable in QLD tho hope that helps

cant help you with the rego bit.
a stock 12a rotor in a ute is quicker down the quarter than my pretty worked A12(twin 40's, elec ignition, balanced, head work, cam etc)
the cost of the conversion is definitley cheaper than the CA if you stick with a carby rotor as there's not a great deal of wiring and electrical differences. the rotor is an easier fit due to its size, except you still need to mod the tunnel cos the boxs are BIG. value for money if i was going to go a whole conversion i'd seriously look at the rotor as a 1st option. as for cost i guess its like any car work ..... if you know enough to do the majority by yourself or with minimal paid help it'll be pretty reasonable but if you need someone to do the majority of the work then it could cost a bit.
2 members on here have done pretty close to the same rotor into a ute conversion; one paid for the majority of the work to be done, 4nik8, and the other did close to all by them self, ANGE. pretty sure these guys could give you approx $$$$ for what it cost them

more power out of a 12a N/A? hmm dont think so... 13BT is a diff story.

12A carby would be cheaper to get running. it would also be slower and prob guzzle more juice.

even take the highest output figures from mazda (12A N/A):

130 hp (97 kW) and 115 ft.lbf (156 Nm) in the RX2

or turbo:

165 hp (123 kW)

Compared to the CA18DE:
Power: 130hp @ 6400rpm and Torque: 119ft-lbs @ 5200rpm

or CA18DET:
Power: 175hp @ 6400rpm
Torque: 165ft-lbs @ 4000rpm

Weight will also come into it. I think you can start to see why so many people do ca18det conversions.

thanks guys. im still abit undicided. i really dont want to cut the tranny tunnel becuase i heard its hard for an engineers certificate in qld for that. and someone told me it IS legal to put a rotory in it but it can only be a 12A N/a. not allowed 13bt's.
