just wondering if any one knows what type of oil i should put in my front shocks
i just need to put some in so i can put the struts into the car and ill get gas ones later

dad threw my old oil out so i cant just whack that back in, which is what i was going to do

doesnt really matter what the ride is like just as long as there is something in there, so any suggestions would be good

I spose any car oil would be fine but I'm sure I'll be better informed down the track. That reminded me though, I wish I hadn't thrown out my origional strut inserts when I was registering my sedan , didn't think about it cos they were dirty and all, and origional

The strut oil is lighter than motor oil. Well it depends on what kind we talking about

Here are the specs for Datsun 1200 (B110) struts:

AMPCO/ATSUGI struts: 280cc of Nisseki Shock Absorber Oil A-2

TOKICO struts: 265cc of Tokico Light Oil No. 1

Measure it out carefully ...

Go down to your local motorbike shop and get some mx fork oil- works very well and you will be pleasantly surprised.
Cheers

When I was working at a Toyota dealership in the late '80's we were still rebuilding Tercel front struts. The Toyota spec oil was
Dexron III ATF. If you're looking for a cheap temporary fix, that's the oil I'd go with. Motorcycle fork oil would be good too but is more expensive. I'm not sure where you'd find Tokico fork oil. I would stay away from engine oil, it doesn't have the anti foaming additives of ATF or fork oils. As ddgonzal says, make sure you measure carefully when filling. Good luck.
