I have been thinking about buying a late 90's 4x4 and taking advantage of the governments $3000 rebate on fitting an L.P.G. system to it so I can use it as a economical family car.
But then I started thinking about how the price of Diesel went up so sharply once companies began releasing economical turbo diesel vehicles and people bought them purely because of the fanatstic economy they got from a cheap fuel like diesel once used to be.
I am thinking now that the Government never really does anything to make life easier without taking something in return and I feel this whole LPG rebate is a bait to lure us into fitting the set up and then once the majority of vehicles are converted to L.P.G. the government raises the price from $0.60 to what ever they like.
I wouldn't be supprised put it that way!
What are others oppinions on this?

I believe there are rumors abound about adding an excise to LPG to bring it in line with petrol and diesel.

Either way, lots of people are jumping at it, and lots of workshops are gonna make a lot of money out of it. I enquired about equipment to set up a workshop for fitouts and there is already a 6 month waiting list on equipment. I also know of 3 workshops already booked out with installs well into 2007. Money to be had and money to be lost. But the government will never lose.

I own a 1991 Nissan Navara that is on dual fuel.
This is the only car I have taken any notice of milage that has gas so it may not be accurate for other vehicles.
On petrol it does about 410-450 k's per 65 litre tank, and on gas it only does about 260-280 k's per 60 litres.
So in my case, where gas is half the price, I am only getting a bit more than half the mileage. So if they up the price of gas i will start using petrol to be more economical

Cheers Mitchell

Edit: I'm with whitesedan on the government thing
