I have come across a 1996 Range Rover HSE 4.6L V8 and it has a marked price of $16000, it has done 140,000km and is awesome in every detail.
I did some research and realised they cost $140,000 new and am wondering why the price is so cheap after only 10 years?
I was considering buying one and fitting LPG to make it semi-affordable but am just wondering what they are like to own.
Does anybody have any information about what they are like to live with?

Check the prices for replacement parts a friend of mine just spent over 1000.00 US for a water pump on her 2002 rover, and 2000.00 on timing chain stuff. Alternator was over 400.00 part only. Maybe the same for the older rover also.

hey Zane, its because they are so sh$t thats why and parts are ultra expensive, a comparitive Toyota land crusier would be 3-4 times the price for its age, because its well serviced and supported and an all round better car. I know cause you saw it on ebay....i saw the ad too. The Discoveries are just as bad.

Ive heard they are prone to under bonnet fires. Something about the fuel rail travelling over the dissy or something. Ive seen four of them at the crash auctions with under bonnet fire damage. Go the cruiser or patrol. Adam.

Hi mate, I did parts on them when they were new and bleive me Rangrovers are crap in every detail.
I remember one customer bought a 4.6 HSE and by the time he traded it in on a new (why I ask) we had done 55 thousand dollars worth of warrant work.
One other customer was unhappy with the power this big lump of an engine was pushing out as it turned out the 4.6 had a 4.0 litre crank in it.
I would not own either a Rangy or a Landrover, my father in law was looking at a Disco I told him if he bought it I would divorce his daughter !!!
cheers ade

Cheap means opportunity. Buy it and put the engine in a 1200. Throw away the rest of the landrover.

gasp! and risk an under bonnet fire! I think I will stick with an A15 with roaring 40's.....although I do love the exhaust note of the V8's but thats about all I like!
