some of the sedans with the australian build plate on them have little tiny borgwarners under them the size of h145s. The jap plates all have h145s. Chirs oan878 has midget borgys under his sedans.

just remembered, i know why the borgwarners in my sedans didnt come from 120ys, coz when i went to put one in my 120y it didnt fit, they neede to have the right hole to locate the diff on the springs, 120y has a bigger hole

well this is interesting. in the 6 1200's I've owned and all the time I have spent in wreckers under 1200's and 120Y's looking for diffs, I have never seen one of these small OEM 1200 BW diffs! If they are OEM, there can't have been many of them made. What year are all these cars that have them?

so back the the question, i want to take the diff out of my coupe and have a locked diff and an open one. this is why i dont want/need the axle. the coupe is a 1970 model and the sedan is a 1976 model. will it be able to be done?

Oans is a 72model. And its definately OEM. Looks like the bigger 120y borgy but is the same size as a h145. I too had never seen one until chris showed me his.

in that case the sedan wil probably be a BW diff. The coupe will definitely be an Hitachi diff. Have a look at them - if they are of the same design you will be able to swap centres, but I suspect they will be different and you wil have to replace the whole assembly. You will easily be able to tell if they are the same or not by sticking you head under each car and having a look. Easiest way to explain it is the BW is a rear-loader with a plate on the back to access the centre, whereas the Hitachi has a lift-out carrier bolted to the front of the axle assembly. oh, and BW is huge compared to the Hitachi.

I tried to fit the H145 from a coupe into my Ke10 housing last night, doesnt fit, the bolt holes are all slightly out, as if they were preventing people being able to do this, as for dimensions they are spot on, length/width even diameter!!

Dammit!!

Mine is 72 model with BW Diff,
Partners a 71 model with BW Diff.

one is a december 71 and the other is a 73??? i think

when i traded diffs with my 120y the BW wouldnt go back in as it had the small locating hole on the diff, where as 120y diffs have the large hole that located on the spacer doovy that 120ys have around there leaves, the hole was even slightly to small to fit over just the bolt on the 120ys leaves

so it looks like they were doing it throughout the production run of 1200s. I would guess only in the sedans though, as with Datsun/Nissan models the coupes were typically fully imported.

WhiteSedan did you try to fit the Datsun H145 carrier to the Toyota housing or the Datsun CW&P to the toyota carrier?

I encountered a similar problem when i tried to fit the Toyota BW 4.3 centre to the 120Y BW housing. Can't remember exactly what the issue was, but I think I couldn't find a suitable crush tube for the pinion. So just threw the whole Toyota assembly under the coupe instead.
