No real reason NOT to except weight. Keep in mind the VG30 is MUCH heavier than the A12 - probably by 100+lbs. The VG30E is close to 400lbs. For comparison, an SR20DE is 300lbs, and a
DET is 330lbs. I don't know what the A12 weighs - does anyone here know?

You will certinaly need to change springs up front to compensate for the added weight.

For the 165hp or so that the VG30E makes, you'll save 75+lbs with an SR20DE and you can easily get the SR20DE to 165hp. CA18DE is even lighter and smaller, but I don't know how hard
it is to get that motor to 165hp.

Keep in mind a 150HP CA18DE in a 1200 will be as fast as a 165HP VG30E just due to the weight savings.

I'm thinking of trying to put a VG-30 V6 from a 300Z in a 1200. What are your thoughts on this matter? Has it been done before? Does anyone know why I
shouldn't try it?
