well as some people may know i got the last peice of my L series puzzle today, the tailshaft

good news is it goes quite nicely, starts first kick, and can move off from stationarry in 4th

bad news is:
need the gearbox recoed, bearing noise in 1st 2nd and 3rd
L20b has a knock developing, something to do with its former life
axel tramps life a bitch, 2nd gear on gravel gets it going
and it squats badly on gearchanges, its got like 4 leaves including a ute helper in there, it should be stiff

but after the car being undrivable for 6 months in happy that i can atleast see that i have improved one thing, burnout ability

Good stuff! You need new rear shocks, get some good oil shocks. All that thrashing it out has made more work for you, need to rebuild it with a few more cc.

What are the oil shocks in the rear of the 180b like? Those old tokico shocks seem to last forever.

took the car for another drive tonight, after putting some panel work on it

found out i need a new clutch, revs but doesnt do a whole lot
also need to find out how far the speedo is out

good news is, WITHOUT having the swaybar attatched, it can go round fair corners fast without body rolling at all

who cares about the box if 4th works, and it takes off in 4th???

My speedo is out 20%, if it says 120, i'm actually doing 100. I have L20b, stanza box, and 14" rims... not sure on the diff ratio (borgwarner). dunno if that helps.

Axle tramp can be controled, .... well, reduced a lot, with the right shocks. Personally I like Konis as they are adjustable & you can dial in the best combination of ride quality & axle control to suit your needs.
If you're going thrashing, then dial up the stiffness, then you can soften them up for a more comfortable ride to the Nationals. Once you know the best positions, this can be done in just minutes.

Best of all, they last almost forever & any wear in the valving can be compensated for with a little more adjustment so that top performance is maintained right to the end of their service lives, .... then you have them rebuilt quite inexpensively.

Can you still buy them new??? I don't know, but Proven Products in Sydney are [were?] Koni agents, so they could be a good place to start.

I have Koni's all round for my 1000 Coupe

i was planning to start my hunt for some konis soon, then i will hunt down money for them, and it should help control the rear nicely

been taking off in fourth a bit lately, it does is with ease. running L20b stanza box 4.1 diff and 15s, will test the speedo tonight against mums car to see where key speeds are

also im going to be removing the "new" engine this weeked and seeing if its healthier or not
