yes the bluebirds ran 40 to 50 psi in qualifying... and did discard the turbos after. There was a good interview with Gibson in zoom last year where he admittedto bos controlers and stull to break the rules unfairly imposed on them.

They basically ran as much boost as the engine and turbo would allow.

i liked his tricks for hiding all the gizmos in the cars and cams didnt even notice most of them during scruteniring. Such as putting racing intercoolers in nissan packaging claiming they were factory parts and therefore allowable for competition under the homogolation (sic) rules.

I believe the bluebird holds the lap record for the old track. In I think 1984 when they were on pole they pulled out a full boost lap and set the lap record and the following year they put the kink in conrod. I don't know the finer details of the story but it's something like that.

The bluebirds were hampered by homologation rules because they were restricted to the type/size of turbo they were allowed to use and suffered reliablility issues with them. The DR30 was another story and was quick and reliable.

Don't know if anybody has been to the trackside "la porceta" up at gosford but the owner has one of the ex-gibson bluebirds, a DR30 and I think several of the gibson GTR's. They have them on display at times, in the restaurant. it's worth a look.

Couldnt agree more! I havent really payed attention to V8 super-cars since around 96. The series needs other makes and models to make it exciting again. Its too 50/50 or 2-up. Boring!
