Well that's what I'm thinking....just never done it before so don't have the confidence to just dive in and find out the hard way.

EDIT: I think you might have the right of it whiteSedan - That's roughly the way I'm thinking of going.

Actually I've seen a few shot on here where people are removing the top bar and replacing it with something stronget to bolt both intercooler and radiator on...maybe that's what I want to do.

Should be ok, wait for more input. I personally like to modify around the existing shell, with mine ive even made a remote clutch master to avoid drilling the firewall.

Bunch of pussies My L20 went in with no cutting. Lifted the front of the car with an engine crane and rolled engine/gearbox combo under and lowered car back on. Sure - not for engine removal every week - but if it is a new drivetrain, should you need to remove it?? As for bolt ins ........ yes, it will hold the radiator and lights in, but that's about it. If a couple of bolts would do the job, then Datsun would have done it to make driveline install easier and save a $$.
As for hipo street cars ..... I've seen some big engines dropped into almost anything - not necessarily engineered - but pulls sik burnouts Racing will require all the rigidity you can find - and there may be an issue with removable radiator supports with improved production type classes.
C'mon boys - take up the challenge, no easy way out!
Cheers

Damn you R-fast....trying to keep my honest or something?

I hear the CA is a struggle - I'll see after a few trial fits.

I take the point though about body ridigity - I'd rather it didn't twist...and I think Phillip Island will try and twist the car more than most circuits around.

I'll consider a bit further after some trial fits I think...

I can get my L16 gearbox attached in on my own, i have to take the bonnet off, raise the car up on axle stands and use a engine crane easy as!

And i reckon the l-series is a taller engine than a ca!

R-fast what shell mods can you do for the imp production series?

Ben,
pick Andrew's brain - I don't think he cut his rad support.
AND .... CA's are only a half size motor anyway so you should be able to just bang it in
Cheers

Hmmmm ... not many mods allowed. Minor - yes minor - reshaping of tunnel, but not cut and weld. You would be limited to heat and beat Auto shell may be the go if there is an issue. My L20 fits with no firewall or tunnel bashing AND no cutting of crossmember ( not permitted). Part of the challenge But next challenge is for a SR20de for the current project racecar so it may be a bit of fun!!
Cheers

So would my car be ok? Mines manual tunnel, Ive only beaten the tunnel a little, i did remove a mount from down inside the tunnel though. My crossmember itself is not modded only the saddles that are tacked onto it were modified. Also beat that bump out of my sump and made it a bit shallower.

Cheers

What are you going to keep the L-series in the yellow one?
