ive been sizing up tyres and i think the biggest i could squeeze under the rear of my ute (standard width diff and standard wheel tubs, just lipped guards) WITHOUT it rubbing would be 215's if i had the perfect offset

so does anyone know of a wheel that has good offset that sits central in the rear guard?

ive heard 200b steelies are pretty good but im not sure? ive got a bluebird steelie as a spare but that sits very close to the leaf spring even with 165 tyre

what about r31 pintara steelies?
i know a few members have them lying around..

how do they sit?

any other good options?

r31 pintara are generally a good fit.. but only 5.5inch.

If you find two 7 inch ones..they are my old rear ones i had widened

Really totally depends on your strut and hub modifications.

On my 180B struts, I went from 240K hubs to 260Z hubs and got 20mm more dish on my wheels. I then used 21mm offset 6 inch wheels.

On a 1200. I personally reckon 185 is the best at 14inch and 15 inch with a 5.5 or 6inch wheel. A 6.5 or 7 inch wheel is too much of a squeeze.

i should have been more specific...

im only looking for the right offset to fit under the rear of my ute for a squirt down the 1/4 mile... i run 195's on my r30 skyline wheels normally

im confident of fitting 215's with the right offset...

and now that you mention it.. i remember seeing a pair of widened pintara steelies sell on ebay for 200+ with tyres

did you sell them on ebay?

or wishing you did?

just run the race tyres you ran last time
just be easy on the launch

measure the offset!

see how far from max inner limit to max outer limmit and see where the wheel mounting face is in relation to them.
Figure out a good sized rim for a 215 and then figure out the offset from there!

http://www.rsracing.com/tech-wheel.html

To find a rim with that offset i would assume you would have to goto a 2nd hand rim dealer and go measure the backspace off all his rims in the size you specified. Or see what offsets you need for a 5.5", 6" & 7" rim

pigdog i will try those tyres again... they were only 195's though...

i did have some trouble with the launch although i may have been a little too excited at times

would just like to try some width to see what happens...

or maybe cement bags would be better

re the 7inchers.. No. I sold them for $120 I think, was a good 4 years ago. So good luck to the fella. He had a CA powered 1200 ute in Sydney. But he sold it all to buy a house.

I can fit 205 60s under the back of the sedan, but Utes have more inner guard clearance I think. I've not yet owned a Ute, so I'm no expert there.

ajax wheels in moorabbin will make you what ever width, diameter and offset you give them ange, around $75 a wheel from memory but lags should be able to confirm this ??
might be worth a bit of time crawling around under the back with a tape measure and steel rim of your chosen dia with a tyre the widest you want and try and work it to it's max

I have 225's on ROH 5 spoke alloy 15x7s under the back on my sedan. they were off a r31. they rub a bit on the bit that is recessed for the door when it bogs down hard.

other then that they are a great fit, they miss the spring by about 10mm and sit in side the rear guards. using a ute diff.

on the frount i have 195/50/15s on the same rims, with stanza struts.

for traction you can't go pas toyo proxes.

my sedan gets some great 60 foot time with then.
i have a unsprung brass button clutch and can dump it at 6 grand off the line at willowbank and get no wheel spin at all.

they are about 180 each, but are well worth it.
