DatsunSSS will post a picture of *one kind* of A12GX piston.

Same part number == same part.

The Datsun A12GX engine came with two different pistons:
* High compression: same piston as A10 engine.
* Low compression: a unique piston

Again, 12010-H1001 was the "normal" A12 piston set. It was also used by the "low compression" A12GX.

It seems we have "discovered" a whole new source for high compression GX pistons -- I knew it was just a matter of time before we would find a good use for A10 engines.

Well I just think he would have pistons originating from an A10 engine.We didn't get anything GX here,so I had no knowledge of these engines having the two types of pistons.Due to taxes and high fuel price (even then) the A10 engine was very common and easy to find here,and the swap in A12 engines has been known since the early seventies.I thought that since the car had a special gearbox and LSD,there might have been a full spec engine in it with the 76.8mm pistons to bring the engine to 1298cc.Seems DatsunSSS wasn't that lucky.....

I've been saying for years that ate A10 pistons were all the go for 1200 engines. This is what I used when I built the 1200 engine in my wife's green 1000 two door.

The new pistons were the same price either way, so it amounted to a little more compression for free. Ran real nice too.

The genuine GX pistons are not completely flat.
I know because I have a spare GX engine and I remember when we removed the GX cylinder head of the car's engine that they looked the same as my spare GX engine.
It has a small step in the centre of the pistons. The step starts at about 10mm from the edge of the piston. Is anybody interested in a picture of it?

My doubt is about having two types of gx pistons.

Those are standard A10 pistons.

back in the Eighties I got two gx motors from Japan both never been apart found both had flat tops in them
