Hi Guys
Is supercharging an A15 an economical way to get a good power boost ? Is it a hard thing to achieve ? Cheers Bob

Yes it's a good way to get more power. It's not the cheapest way to go fast.
Mounting the blower is hard work.

I'd say Turbo charging is going to give you more bang for buck, as far as the cost of doing the conversion goes....
as for fuel economy.... I think turbo is also going to be better, at least theoretically you can keep the engine from going into boost if you really need to limp 15miles to the next gas station....with the fuel gauge needle 4 thicknesses below the empty line been there.... didn't make it though ...

A supercharger appeals to me because it would be cheaper and simpler in theory for a the home fabricator to get a 4agze toyota charger for $100 to $200 and make it work.
With a turbo there are more factors to screw up. Plus its more responsive than a turbo which is better for autocross and road racing. A turbo may be less harsh on the driveline, and a turbo is more efficient and will make more power. But these engines aren't the best for drag racing anyhow... The debate goes on forever.

If you want to run in the negative pressure zone [vacuum] in the manifold, just close the throttle a bit more. Performance will be less of course, just the same as any other form of induction would be. The upside is that full boost comes on within a revolution or two of the blower once the throttle is snaped open.

I'll get in on this one just for a laugh....
Dodgeman- yes, but only if you are running a draw through. Blow through the carb and the fish-kettle is very different and a little more stinky. The parasitic drag is always there and always more than a turbo, unless you hook up the electric clutch (SC12 &SC14), but then you need an alternative inlet for when the blower is not running. I am in the process of putting a SC14 onto an A15- Budget build (less than $1000 AU) using the stock pistons & stock inlet manifold, & stock compression. I am planning to run a blowthrough, boxed 32/36 carby setup with intercooler (definatley required for 9:1 compression). 4-6psi to start with & 8-10 if all goes well, although I may have to decompress for that boost level. I will draw up some plans for the blower mounts & give details of carby jets, pulley ratios etc, if all goes well. You can view topic.
