I have a Morris Van with an A14 and a 5-spd. If you don't have it yet, you might want to look for an A14 vs an A12 if you want a bit more performance out of it.

Here is a NZ-based Morris Minor forum. There is a good bunch of lads over there on that forum! There is a fellow named Fweddy who is located in Christchurch that has a van with an A12. (Same chassis as a ute)

Minor Mania Forum

Another good one is the Morris Down Under Forum. Lots of Datsun swaps with technical discussions. A lot of folks there have done that swap and are always willing to help. There's a complete writeup on it with pics, too.

Morris Down Under

My swap was a bit different because I have a LHD van with a hydraulic clutch. I also used a 5-spc and the Datto rear axle which doesn't seem terribly common. I am located in the US, and Morris vans are exceedingly rare here, so I went about the swap a bit differently.

I am about to scrub the Datto drivetrain and put the van on a different chassis with either a 4.3 litre V6 or a V8. It should be fun!

The is (or was a minor kicking around christchurch a few years ago, with a holden 308 V8 in it. I reckon the dude needs his head reading, but each to his own.

Cheers for the links guys, and the good advice...the A14 sounds like it might be a go, but for the meantime I already have the A12 so i'll go with that and maybe convert later.

Morries are great though in that they all have pretty much identical chassis across all the models so getting replacment parts in this case is easy as i'm not worried about authenticity.

We have a few minor (no pun intended) body modifications planned, but otherwise it'll look stock...and run like a cut cat

Thats is sweet...I dig the carbon fibre hood and trunk lids

We really toyed with the idea of using the lexus V8, you can pick them up in NZ for $1500, but I have a long standing love affair with Datsun engines ever since I had my '71 SSS 1600. The Moggy is going to be a daily driver so I wanted fuel economy and reliablity as well as something simple that can be fixed roadside if things do go pear shaped. I went for the Moggy ute body 'coz it'll look so sweet with my Longboards on top...like a little old 50s Rat RodQuote:
