Just wondering how hard is it to change from the metal grill to plastic... what is needed to fit

because im fitting a cooler on my 1200 and i dont want to cut up a metal grill.................

do you need to cut anything? i don't have a 1200, but my oil cooler didn't require cutting anything...

or do you mean intercooler?

you can make a new grill. i did even with my primitive metal working skills.

you just buy a plastic one of ebay and screw it in (the body behind the grill is the same) you can get a new one for around fifty bucks but if your going to cut it up i would go a second hand one

hmmm take it off fit the intercooler see if and what might have to be cut.

ur cooler must be pretty big coz most of the other ca guys can fit theres no worries

I have a spare intercooler laying around from another project. I have to take my front bumper off and the fender, if i'm feeling motivated and fit the intercooler, will i catch hell for having it mounted and not having a turbo yet? or just do it because time is $$ and nobody will ever know it's there.

You definitely need to remove the support bar for the bonnet lock. You then really need to make up an alternative to stop the bonnet flexing under high speed, and potentially flipping open (unless you use bonnet clips).

If it won't fit behind a metal grill, the intercooler is too bloody big in my opinion.

The plastic grilles use completely different body mounting points to hold them on. Including mounting tags from the beaver panel and top of the radiator support panel.

try experimenting with spacers a little... I think you can space the grill out up to about 20mm without it being too noticeable....

I know some one that had their grill held on with cable ties because the intercooler was too big! you could hardly notice unless you had a real close look.
