Jesse, In America, Dodge Chargers started in 1967 having 440 Magnums. I am not sure what years Chargers went to Australia but the 440 was definately an option. The Charger body started in 1966 as a fastback Coronet and had a 383 as standard and the 426 Hemi as the optional motor. I never had a 440 run with my 1965 Pontiac GTO with the 389 Tri-Power motor, let along beat it. The 440 had a lot of torque and they would spin a set of tires off of it real quickly but the Magnum motor was only rated at 375 net horsepower at 10:1 compression ratio. Net relates to around 200-225 brake horsepower. Not a lot considering the displacement. I have the 265 BHP - 350 CI in my truck. My GTO had a 390 net HP motor but that was soon upgraded too around 550 to 600 Net HP, which was about 350 BHP. Now that little GTO (George Of The Jungle) would run.

Yeah i know a fair bit about Vals. My best mate in QLD had 4 of them so naturally i allways helped him out with stuff. I know a fair bit about most cars but a Charger would be the only big car i would ever think twice at buying. I if i were to own a big car, the big cubes have got to come into the picture. A supercharged 440 like the one in Pacer "WAR 440" would do the trick : ) Just a big grunty cruiser that could smoke the bags for 1/2 a mile. Plus, Chargers just look heaps better than any other big car from that era. Fastback like datto coupes and just look tougher than GTHO's and HQ Monaro's. Mareo, the American Dodge Chargers are a completly different car to the Australian Valiant Charger. Chargers in OZ only had the option of a 318 mopar V8, 265 or 245 hemi. (correct me if im wrong) Alltho if would have been mad if we did have the option of a 440!! Scott Davo

The 440 has the most potential of the Chrysler motors except the 426 Hemi, of course. The 440 has a humongous bore and a short stroke that makes it rev quicker than Earnhart can hit a wall. The factory just didn't put the horsepower to it. The 440 has a 4.32 inch bore and the stroke is only 3.75 inches. When you guys mention Vals, does that mean the Chrysler Valients? I just figured out that Val and Datto Dude meant Vals were a car, not a girl. LOL Sorry about that Jesse, I thought you were meaning your girlfriend.

How to find your speed in MPH by your RPM. Multiply the RPM times the Tire Circumfrence and divide that by the Gear Ratio, multiply that by .0009469 to get Miles Per Hour. I hope this formula below works out right when I post it, the lines have a bad habit of not staying in the correct relationship as written. RPM X Tire Circum. ____________________ X .0009469 = MPH Gear Ratio I will post in my club photo album, the schedule for matching seconds to Miles Per Hour, like to go a mile in 60 sec is 60 MPH.

I have posted the table to show time in seconds to go one mile to find MPH. It is in the Photo Album by mareospeedwagon1. This may be of use to a lot of ya'll. The times and speeds are estimated but very close.

Where can I find some pics of these Austalian Valiants? They sound pretty cool. Were/are they part of Daimler/Chrysler or did they just use Mopar engines? Sorry to perpetuate the non-Datsun ramlings, I'm just a car nut.

What about the diff ratio? Wouldn't you have to include that in the formula if you are taking tire circumference into account? justin
