Hi all,
Well I am finally finished welding a new front subframe in my coupe, and since I am about to reinstall the enigine I am tryinig to find out what wold be the best engine to build? I already have a sedan with a Z24, so I want to keep this one a A series.
It has a A-12 with sidedraught SU's, would it be worth building this engine up boroing it out and strokeing it, plus some serious port work??
Or should I try to find a A-14 and build the pi$$ out of that, same things, boreing stroking porting?
Or a combo a-12 worked head on A-14 block, or other way around??
How high can you rev an A-series??
Money for machine work is not a problem I have started up a custom car and 4x4 fab shop and my bussiness partner runs full engine machine shop, so I was thinking of going all out as long as I can source parts easily.

just go a RB26DETT!!! Quote: Or a combo a-12 worked head on A-14 block, or other way around?? i would go "the other way round" unless you can get hold of a A12GX head, but good luck finding 1. you can buy JTS alloy heads and have them highflowed etc. the benefit of that is they dont need valve saver fluid... there is no point in boring/stroking an A12, you end up with nothing more than an A14 or 15, start with on of these 2 and build it up. headwork, cam, double valve springs, extractors, SUs, bore, stroke, high compression, copper head gasket, electronic dizzy.... dry sump.... 5spd.....LSD.... the list goes on.

Greasemonkey, if you go the A15, I have what you are looking for. I have an A15 crank, rods, and an A15 block, Needs bored. Or pick up an A14 block from keithdot hee on the board and add a new set of A15 pistons and you're good to go.
Had bad slop in #3 cylinder. Edge of piston went away. This is from the '81 210(B310) parts car.
Let me know if interested

Bluemax I am deffenetly interested do you have the head for the A-15? Does anyone know how far I can bore out an A-15, and what about the stroke. I am trying to get the most bang and keep it somewhat streetable this may end up being my daily driver for awhile, while I put a new engine in the Suburban (Durmax twin turbo).
If any one is interested I started up a shop with a partner. I am do major and minor auto repairs, along with cyustom fabrication on just about anything including heavy equipment, rollbars, custom 4link and suspension setups etc......, and the other side is building engines including custom porting balancing, you name it

is this a street car, if your staying with an a-series, go for a a15 if you can get one and build it. a14 is also not a bad chioce. rpm limit biggest factor is valve train. street engine I would say 7500 if done right, race engine I have heard reports of 10,000rpm my race motor runs to 9200rpm

I have the head also. I am hanging on to the intake manifold. I may need it for the 1200 with the A14 in it.
