Gday, I am in the hunt for a SR20DE front cut and an unsure what 1 to go for. I have seen plenty of different combinations but there have been that many swaps done in the past I cant keep up. If I am wrong please correct me.

S13 SR20 - No VVTI, runs a dizzy set up
S14 SR20(early) - No VVTI, runs a dizzy
S14 SR20(late) - No VVTI but runs C.A.S. (cam angle sensor)and coil pack per plug
S15 SR20 - Has VVTI and CAS

Is the above info correct or have I missed something. I am going SR20DE so please try and base info around this motor.

Currently on ebay there is a S13 (DE) front cut for $700 plus about $400 delivery. I made some enqiureys and they can get me a S15 (DE) front cut for $2000 delivered. What do you all think remembering I will be working the piss out of this donk so I want to know which motor will be the best to do up and simpelest to play with, I have never played with VVTI before.

s13 is the way to go then. The head is different (better ports) you def dont want VVT and if your going aftermarket ECU u can change to coil pack/CAS easily

Thats awsome news. I was wandering if the old donk could be upgraded to CAS/coil packs. Is there a massive difference in heads???

I have driven in a 13sec toyota with a VVT-I motor and it was the bomb. The bad thing was it had a turbo. I would go for the S15 SR20 because it runs good or better than the turbo versions.

Haltech has a plug in for the STD sr20de computer
I think if you are going to do that much to it you might as well start with the cheapest option if the mods are going to require a re build,

S15..don't waste your time on anything else.

You can stop worrying about the other 6-7g you are going to spend with your current plan.

Homer makes a good point, this donk is gonna cop the full works and jerks and the initial purchas price is $1000 or more cheaper. Whats some more good things about the S15 donk over the S13/S14..

98kW at the wheels stock. Looks as fast as a SR20det in a 1600.

...and it's newer.
