I'm in the process of transplanting a Japanese import A15 lump into a Mustard coluored Datsun 1200 GX (rod bearing spun).
I'd like to check the condition of the big end bearings before dropping the motor in.

Could anyone tell me the bigend torque specs on the A15 please?
Also - are the big end bolts the" normal" type or "stretch" bolts like in some modern German motors?

This is my first Datsun/Nissan project car - I used to race a MKII Golf in GTI Challenge.
I got a bit tired of understeer though - this time I'm planning a stripped out Datto on steroids for some tail-out action

What do you have planned for the A 15???
I am running A 14 with the A15 crank wich gives me a Standard a 15 but with a bit more umFFF!!!!!!

Plans so far is:
1. 1400 pick-up /ute springs and IGS dampers at the back - I'm not sure what to use for the fronts (I used to run 550lbs front springs in the Golf) - suggestions?
2.1400 ute 5 spd Gearbox - rebuilt of course , with 1400 ute diff (Killarney's straight is only 800m long ,and the rest is twisty - so I won't be needing top end speed,but rather acceleration out of the corners
3.286 deg cam (Mastercams)
4.Gasflowed head,skimmed to 11.8:1 CR (we are allowed 102.6 octane fuel)
5.Branch manifold (Bosson exhausts) and minimal sound damping (we have a 100dB sound limit at the track)
6.Two 40mm side draught Webers
7.Golf MK III radiator,expansion bottle and slim line electric cooling fans X2
8. 7 row oil cooler and baffles welded into the sump to prevent oil surge.
9.I need suggestions for some BIG brakes too, but that can wait 'till last - the above is more than enough to do in a single year

All the bolts on the engine are normal type....too old skool for stretch bolts. So you can reuse them if you wish.

One more thing if you don't mind: Is the big end journal size on the A15 the same as the A14? .

It's easy to get hold of the A14 stuff here - so I'm hoping that there is no real difference if I need parts .

For all practical intents & purposes, the A15 is simply an A14 with an extra 5mm of stroke.

All of the technical specs relating to the crank dimentions, [except stroke], rods, bore, oil system, cam & it's drive system,..... hell, everything except piston dimentions [lower crown, bigger bowl] should be the same as the A14.

Ah thanks guys - glad to see that Nissan builds their motors like VW does - sensibly, without changing specs much between differing versions of the same motor.

I stripped the sump off my import motor last night and it's as clean as a whistle inside - no ridge on top of the bores and minimal bearing wear.

I changed the big end bearing shells with some good ol' Aussie ACL ones just to be sure,as the poor thing is sure to have a tough life from now on
