#1 what sorta cam do i use?
Matto1kUte Posted on: 2007/2/27 23:28
hi guys i have a A14 block which is built stock but has had A15 crank and pistons put in it ect..
im now deciding on a cam. i have a GX head (dont ask why i just do) which has A15 valves in it and it has been shaved a fair bit.

now i want to put it into my vanette for a couple of years untill i later put the twin carbys on it and put it in my 1000 ute when its ready. for the moment i will be using a stock A15 carby and exhaust so when it comes to choosing a cam should i leave it stock and when i put it into my ute change cams over? or should i get it re ground and drive my van around with a mild engine with stock carby? the van is on gas if this makes much difference. and i do want the van to do long trips interstate. when sitting on 90-100km/h the van does rev high as its geared that way.
im just not sure what cam to stick in?

I recommend using the stock A14 camshaft that's already in the block.

Most A14 cams have a nice powerband from 2500-4800 rpm. Just where you want it for freeway cruising and heavy Vanettes.

DD is right. You don't want a lumpy cam in a van. It will be a pain in the ass.
If you will be doing long trips in it, I strongly reccomend putting some bigger wheels on it. I had 195/65/15's on my old van. Even with those wheels, It ould still pull all the way off the clock.
Plus if your on gas, a good grind for petrol wont be suitable. Wait untill you throw it in the ute before you work it up.
