na he needs to keep the BP5ES. They were the only plugs I could get longevity out of.

i have got new BP5ES plugs on order (cant buy them plugs off the shelf in the town of warrack)

as for the ballast resistor, i took it out, hooked up the wires that were on each end of it and thought nothing more of it.
i suppose this was what i had to do? leaving the wires unconnected seems irish to me.

what i plan to do tonight is run a wire directly from the battery to the coil +ve terminal, put in new plugs and giv it a go.

#1 what color are the plugs (rich or lean)

#2 did you check float levels at ilde would be okay if low but off idle would run lean and rough

# 3 are the carbs synchronized

#4 electronic dist. or points . if points needs resistor or you will burn the points

#5 if points have you checked point gap

#6 was the engine apart or installed as is is cam timing ok

have you tried running the wire direct from the battery to the coil yet?
I was just thinking about my set up, I have a thermo fan, electric fuel pump, tachometer and power to turn my CD player on, all hooked up to the black and white wire that goes straight to the positive terminal on the coil, it was the easiest place for me to find 12V with the ignition on so everything was wired up to that except the fuel pump and thermo fan are run through a relay which is only switched from the coil voltage, perhaps I am having a voltage drop from all the accessories using power from the coil?
Do you have a similar set up or just a coil dedicated power feed? if you are like me and have crap all powered from the coil voltage supply then maybe we are in the same boat?
Hope you have some luck soon you must be itching to get it fired up and ready rip A$$ I know I was

havent tried it yet. still sittin at the mechanics (the shoddy one) will get it tomoro.

i used the same wire to power the fuel pump as you did but i dont have any cd player or anything else apart from the fuel pump...
my thermo fan will just be a live wire that i switch on when i want from cabin. so i can leave it on after i turn the engine off...

im keen to get it goin too. get it on the dyno and see what its got.

once it runs. then i still have to make the exhaust for it. then engineer cert, then roadworthy then reg...
simple!! i wish...
engineers arent gonna like me doin the work myslef.
bugger them, i can do as much to the ute as any mechanic could, plus i care more for the job i do coz its mine!
VicRoads will have a field day all the same

Hey just a thought, but are the air cleaner elements fitted?
The reason I ask is I had a 250 X-flow motor in another car, and it would not rev past about 2500-3000 rpm.
After alot of frustration, we found it was the damn air cleaner elements. They did not have enough surface area to allow the motor to breathe at higher rpm's.
Once we removed them it revved like a champ.

Bugger here in WA I just put the motor in and thats it, no engineers cert, roadworthy cert, it was already rego'd so it still is a stock 1200 as far as the rego goes, can't be bothered with all that legal nonsense

yes the air filters or on the engine. i hadn't thought of that one. but they are UNIFILTER ones, designed for the carbs like mine, they shouldn't restrict it.
well i bought my ute without reg so it means i have to get it registered, and they will want to know all about it, ill only tell them if they ask about it...

i do know an engineer. well, a guy who did the course, now he can certify truck extenions/ute extension and make trailers and all that so getting the tray in my ute engineer will be ok (i put new sheet in where the old rusty one was).

As far as vicroads:
Engine still is A series, that all vicroads need to know (technically i think A15 is within capacity upgrades anyway)

5speed: well international ones come with 5spds, they dont need to know mines from a toyota...

exhaust was made by Cameron Krahe engineering, that sounds half legit. i know a farmer who makes most of his equipment, like augers and fieldbins and he says something about Ravana engineering, coz his farms name is ravana. lol

anyway, updating the ute.
it is at a good mechanic now. i am pretty sure i could fix the problem, but ive got it at the mechs so he can run an eye over it, plus ive got a few things that need doing that i dont have the right tools for...

im almost certain it is just old plugs.
