Hey fellas, anyone know where I can get hold of some datsun 1200 ute blue prints?

Been looking on the net but theres bugger all around for the utes. A few good ones for the coupes and sedans though.

Looking for any form of (to scale) Top Front Side views. I want to get hold of them so that I can whip up a ute in 3D to experiment with a few body modifications, colour combos, wheel combos etc.

Would really appreciate any leads

Cheers

I've never seen ute blueprints around, but I did a 3d model for GTA3 a while ago... I can send you the 3ds file which will go straight into a later version of Autocad...

Check HERE for screenshots. It was my first model for a game so don't expect too much detail...

EDIT - If you've searched Google, you've probably come across this site:

http://www.the-blueprints.com/ - They have a whopping 102 Datsuns at last count!

Yeh mate I've already trauled all the 3d modelling resources but no datto 1200 utes.

I'm hoping somebody in the datsun community maybe has a hard copy of some dimensions... maybe from a manual of some sort??

Your .3ds model looks pretty sweet for GTA but im after some blueprints (or technical drawings) so i can make a really accurate model (to the mm), this is because after I make the model, I can use it to help me actually make the body kit.

I'd use your .3ds but going from experience it is easier to start from scratch then convert all the 3point poly's to 4 point poly's. Did you use 3ds max?

Yeah fair enough.
I used 3ds max and made my own blueprints from photos I took of my own car.

Obviously for a game, max detail is of little benefit, so my model may not be of use...

Are you using Max too?

Nah mate I use Lightwave.
I started 3d modelling the same way though, making cars for gta3, i just couldnt bloody get used to 3ds max.

I tried taking photos of the datsun and using them as references, the problem is the FOV of the camera distorts the ratios...

You'd need to get about 50m away and use a good zoom lens to remove the depth of field.

Done any datsun models other then GTA3?

Yeah - I usually go with blueprints, but like you, I had no luck with the ute...

It's another hobby so I don't dabble much anymore. Basically the only other (car) model I've done is THIS

Lightwave is cool - I have a mate who's addicted to it, but I went the Max route and did a few training courses

Sweet, thats a 3ds model?

Yeh I'd have to say I'm addicted to lightwave. I made a model of a 1977 Toyota Celica DRM GT4.
It's a mm accurate model (although i smoothed and modified some areas)

A German company took the '77 celica and modded the f**k outta the celica engine, ended up being 560 bhp from a SOHC and 860kg body wieght.

I'll upload a few pics soon.
Hopefully if I can get a few good reference images I'll be able to whip up the datto and upload some nice 3d images.

You guys keen enough to model a Datsun for a racing sim game? Like GTR2, rFactor, Live for Speed....

I've just started getting into these racing sims they seem pretty realistic these days (make Gran Turimso look like an arcade game) - but there are no Datsuns.

Might be a pretty big project though as you have to model suspension, chassis, brakes as well as engine power and the body...pretty involved.

Are they for PC?

If so, I'd be interested, but I have very little time these days (too many hobbies ).

Might investigate. Which one would you recommend?

EDIT - just checked out GTR2 - looks amazing - downloading the demo now.

Hmmm... how does an Advan Sunny Coupe sound???

Yeh for sure, need some datto's in the sims.
Might be able to whip up a few, no dramas.

I want to get this Ute modelled first so I can start sussing out what colour and mods I want to do to my real ute.

Any ideas where I can get hold of some good plans / schematics / technical drawings of a datsun ute??
