#1 dash wiring - need help !!!!!
boofhead Posted on: 2007/3/30 19:58
well i bit the bullet and pulled the old dash out of my sedan this morning ... not too hard of a job ??!!
swapped the radio and original guage face (the square one) into the new dash pad and then reinstalled it.
as you'd expect it couldn't all go that smoothly.
connected all the wires back up, i tagged everything so i knew which was what.
key in the ignition and it started
headlights and tail lights all work
fan works
guage backlight works
but f@#cked if i know what i've done ?? i have no indicators or oil and charge lights !!!!!!
i've checked everything twice, i've read the dash removal doc in the tech section 3 times, i've been thru the wiki ........

up for any ideas you guys can offer ??!! gotta get this sorted by tomorrow arvo so i can get a couple other bits sorted out before next week end

Did you un plug the battery terminals while doing the dash?
If not check the fuses.

Hmm did you reconnect the blinkers plug?

Have a beer. Pull it apart, and have good look at the wires, and look at what position they go into the round plug.

You're a smart fella, just sounds like you've got some stress issues due to the everlooming easter weekend.

Could also be a fuse of sorts.

There are only a couple of wires in a 1200..can't be anything too hard to find.

given up for today .... going to undo all the wiring tomorrow and have another look .... didn't check the fuses ? but don't think there is one that'd affect the stuff that's not working ?
thing that gets me is that it's only the indicators and oil/charge lights ?? everything else seems to be working ??
the big round plug onto the dash is keyed so pretty sure i've got that right ...

still happy for more input or ideas ??

if the dash is out again (guessing you pulled it out to check it again) see if you swap the facias back if the lights work again, sometimes that green electrode curcit board crap can get damaged easily after 30 odd years and the curcit is not connected.

luckily you can bridge it from juntion to junction easily

You cant just simply swap from square guages to round guages. You need to swap wires around in the round plug.
I think Dattodude has a drawn up diagram of what pins to swap.

from what ive gathered, he was just swapping the instuments into a new dash face, not swapping to round guages.
am i right??
