chain drive kicks, pretty much all new nissan engines are chain driven now, belts suck, especially exposed ones, straight up, one stone and its all over man, specially with the fan firing straight into the belt, the fan stirs up a lot of dust and stuff, doing an auto x i ended up with a bit of grass and stuff sitting round the cover and all that, just look at a V belt that picks up a stone, its all over for your p/s or water pump whatever. but its up to you man, i wouldnt risk it, plus no one could see it down there anyways. sweet though if you try it. you would have to make sure teeth count was right, match up a belt and fit in a tensioner. choice from chris

while this may seem like a wonderful idea, I hate to be the one to rain on your parade. without some major re-engineering, there is no way that you will be able to do this. A series have the oil pump driven off of the camshaft, while E series have the oil pump driven off the crankshaft. as in the oil pump on the E series is the cover for the lower front of the block and the oil pan, on the A series this area is covered by the timing cover, (the cover for the timing chain and gears). as a personal opinion, from someone who professionally repairs cars, I would like to make a comment: timing belts are a pain in the backside. they have a life expectancy of about 60,000 miles, if they are not that durable, they break at what is usually the worst possable moment. and the idea in not worth the expense required to make it happen.

Not so crazy. I would like to have a belt drive for my 1200s. Makes changing the cam timing simple. Let me know when you figure it out. The sports racing guys over here are putting the E15 heads on the A engines, they say its a simple swap. I have to take a closer look at one and see how they seal the front of the crank. Bob

Guys I have been sparked on by the commentary about eh E15 and A15 motors and in particular cranks being basically the same. I thought someone said they would actually bolt in as far as the main bearings go. My idea is to take the cam belt drive off the E15 crank and put in on in place of the chain drive and somehow mount the E15 cam pulley on the A15 cam and have an exposed belt drive set up. Also have to block off the oil feed hole. Any ideas.
