Update on the brake conversion

Hey guys, I talked it up a lil while ago bout doin a silvia brake conversion on my ute. Ive bin busy with uni and various other time wasters but holidays are here so here is an update to the story.
The standard 1200 drum brake hub fits perfectly inside the s14 silvia rotors i have. and when all set up it increases the track width of a standard 1200 by only 2.5mm each side. And a much cleaner disk over hub setup as opposed to the disk bolting in behind the hub. I then set up the strut in my lathe and had the plate the bolts to the backing plate machined down so it was all level. Now all I need to do is machine up a suitable bracket to mount the calliper to the strut. I will have some pics up soon.

![]() I just machined enough off the back of the flange to give me a good mounting face. ![]() The standard DRUM BRAKE hub will fit inside the silvia disk rotor. But you need to machine the centre bore of the disk out to 70mm (I think the standard silvia is 68mm from memory) This is a rough sketch of what the adaptor plate will look like. To align the caliper over the center of the rotor a spacer will need to be used and set up like this with the white section being the spacer and the red being the adaptor plate. and this whole setup is bolted to the bottom of the strut using the four bolts from the drum backing plate

would'nt it be easier to machine the outer surface of the hub down instead of "boaring" out the centre hub of the disc rotor. If you ever wanted to upgrade to slotted or different rotors you would have to machine them out as well befor fitting over the STD hub. Just an idea, Its what I did for my silvia disc brake conversion.

its easier to fit the disc in a lathe

yes tru it probably wouldve been better if i wanted to upgrade in the future. But im just gna leave it at this for brake upgrades. I only have a slightly worked a15 and this upgrade will be ample braking for the street driving that the ute is being built for. And pig is rite. easier to knock the 2mm from the disk than the hub.
